LONDON | Crossharbour Tower - Baltimore Wharf | 150m | 44 fl | T/O

Crossharbour
Canary Wharf, London

Height: 131m (AGL) / 136m (AOD)
Floors: 43
Architect: Skidmore Owings & Merrill
Developer: Ballymore Properties Ltd

Work is finally starting on this much-delayed residential scheme, which has been talked about since 2001. It will stand just to the south of the main Canary Wharf cluster, near the 50-storey Pan Peninsula Tower which also began work recently.

The project was originally proposed as 6 towers, the tallest being 157m, but was withdrawn. It was proposed a 2nd time, as a single tower of 170m, but this too was cancelled, due to local NIMBYs complaining about the height.

In September last year, a revised plan for a 131m tower was finally given approval.

I think it's a very boring and unremarkable design compared to the original 2 schemes proposed. As usual we get a "dumbed down" design thanks to the local NIMBY's.

This was the original scheme, back in 2001.

6 towers, the tallest being 157m/35 storeys:-

This was the next design, which would have been 170m and had 50 storeys, taller than the Heron Quays buildings. Sadly though, it was cut down following complaints from nearby residents. The usual lame excuses - "too tall!" and "out of scale!"
(even though the UK's 3 tallest buildings are just down the road)

The final, approved design. 131m/43 storeys.

Nice buidling still.
The floor to floor height seems very little with this buidling with 131 meters for 43 floors.
Compared to the 50 floor within 170 meters.
They probably had to cut the floor to floor height to get it within the height limits or something like that ??

This is Pan Peninsula, the other tower being built nearby. Looks much better than Crossharbour imo.

Height is 147m/50 storeys, and it started construction a few months back:-

Here's a recent pic of the Pan Peninsula site. The Crossharbour Tower will stand in the background, to the right of that blue groundscraper:-

No it isnt, I like it though, it will expand the CW cluster along with PP. The Shard will put this and everything else in the UK- and maybe even europe in the dark when it starts!

Totally agree, if ever there is a right place for a skyscraper it's Canary Wharf.

This is a bit of a step away from most SOM in-house archtect's designs. 99% are smooth-skinned glass edifices. Understandably, residential towers come with balconies though lol

The second design, which had the tallest tower would have been sweet.

Great, the city yet again suffers to Nimby's, and has to resort to a clumbsy, stubby and overall banal design instead of that nice, elegent 170m design.. pathetic.. Ah well, least somets bein built..
