Portion of Thousand Pillar temple to be reconstructed

Government is planning to set up a museum at Warangal fort with Rs. 1 crore
Museums to be set up in each district, beginning with Nagarjunasagar and Medak

Quote:
WARANGAL: The Thousand Pillar temple at Hanamkonda and Ramappa temple at Venkatapur mandal would be included in the list of world heritage monuments soon, said Minister for Archaeology & Museums N. Rajyalakshmi.

The State Government, which has enhanced the budget for the department from a mere Rs. 50 lakhs to Rs 2.5 crores, proposes to develop the historical places and improve the existing museums.

"The Government is planning to set up a museum at Warangal fort with Rs. 1 crore," the Minister said.

The Minister was here to lay the foundation stone for reconstruction of a part of the Thousand Pillar temple that was dismantled by Archaeological Society of India here on Sunday. The structure would be in place in two years and the Central Government had sanctioned Rs. 3.5 crores for the purpose.

Museums : Ms. Rajyalakshmi said that it was decided to set up one museum in each district and to begin with, they will come up at Nagarjunasagar and Medak very soon.

The existing Gandhi Centenary Museum at Karimnagar would be renovated and extended. The Minister lamented that public patronage to the museums is on the wane. "Not many people are aware of the State museum at Hyderabad. We have recently added 16 galleries and one more in the process exclusively for Ajanta paintings," she pointed out.

Warangal

Warangal:
The legendary city, which has found its way into Marco Polo's travel diaries!

Warangal Fort

Warangal fort is 2-km from Warangal Railway station, which dates back to the 13th century. The Kakatiya king, Ganapati Deva and his daughter Rudramma built the fort. Invaders destroyed the fort, only remnants will be seen. The fort had three layers of protection, remnants of which can still be seen today. First layer is a wall made of mud which is currently about 40 feet high and encircles the entire fort, the circumference of which is a few kilometers. Second layer is a wall made up of granite rock. Than the actual main fort. The famous stone gateways that are still present and stand about 50 feet from the ground are a masterpiece and carved out of a single rock. They are called Kirti Toranas(great gateways) of Kakatiyas. They have become a symbol for Andhra Pradesh tourism and its replicas made out of concrete can be seen in various parts of the state.

Ramappa Temple: Front View

Ramappa Temple, is an archaeological wonder. Situated 50 km from Warangal is the glorious Ramappa shrine at Palampet. The Ramalingeswara temple, popularly known as Ramappa Temple. This probably is the only temple in India known by the name of the sculptor who built it. The head sculptor was Ramappa, after whom the temple is known today, rather than after the presiding deity, Ramalingeswara, as is the general norm. The temple of Ramappa was built on behalf of the king, Kakati Ganapathi Deva by his chief commander Rudra Samani at a place called Ranakude in Atukuru province.

Ramappa Temple: Dancers

The Ramappa temple is a superb example of their love for art, music and dance. The temple is situated in a valley and is built with bricks so light that they can float on water. Yet the temple is so strong that it is still intact after numerous wars, invasions and natural calamities. There was a major earthquake during the 17th century which shook the Ramappa temple and the other nearby temples.
