Mumbai airport voted best in the country
Quote:
A few years ago, it was impossible to think of any airport in the country, let alone the Mumbai airport on the list of world-class airports. But that's exactly what's happened.

The Mumbai international airport has been voted the best in the country in a recent survey by the Airport International council - a body of airport operators who collectively run over 1600 airports worldwide.

Shorter check in queues, cleaner toilets, trolleys that work and a great retail experience has put Mumbai on the list though it still needs to work just a little more to make the final cut.

Passengers at 100 airports across the world were asked to rate airports, among other things, on the basis of service, ambience and navigational aids within the terminals.

Mumbai airport scored 3.57 out of 5 - just a little below the industry average of 3.83.

While Mumbai came out on top, Delhi followed at a distant 2.6.

In all, 21 Asian airports were surveyed. Among them, Kuala Lumpur came out the clear winner.

Mumbai airport though still has its challenges like constrained operating space, security threat posed by shanties that surround it and continuously growing traffic.

But for now it can enjoy its newfound status.

Great! Im pleased with this survey, gives you hope that things are changing for the better despite the changes and challenges Indain Airports face.

Good on Mumbai.

the answer has to be no. I am surprised that Delhi follows Mumbai in the ratings. Most probably they didn't conduct the survey for any other airport in the country since they just surveyed passengers in 21 airports in Asia.

3.57 out of 5 is not bad at all considering the state of Indian Airports , with Mumbai doing well for itself and Hyd. and B'lore airports hopefully world class things are looking up now.

P.S. - I'm shocked Delhi managed to get 2.6

Actually, as of my last trip I found CSIA to be more pleasant than IGI, and I didn't even fly out of the new domestic terminal. That being said, it wasn't a whole echelon better. If Delhi's a 2.5, Mumbai's a 2.7

In fact if left to me i would not have extra images on the walls - just the sign of the men's rest room on top but with maybe an indian tinge(MAYBE a bit bigger and better designed for visibility).

Does it calm me in my resting place in the waiting area the way its displayed(it could have been better) ?- no. Ancient Indian culture need not be strewn all over the place for decoration. They can have pictures or paintings of anciant Indian culture as a beautiful collage in a few pages- not everywhere. Do they have images of ancient folklore like this in airports in the West or East Asia etc all over the walls ? and ill-coinceived pictures ? - NO.

Any picture or presentation must have a theme and have proper arrangement and grouping etc.

In my opinion Indian art has not developed(remained stagnant for a few 100 years now)- and what has developed in the time during the Mughal's and British is not proper art at all- Art requires freedom- Indian art flourished before the British and Mughals- look at our ancient temples and other art and architecture and the perfection they have- for that time they did more than great(if that art progressed and eveolved till today without too much interference then we would have some of the best art in the world today)- but our art got stunted under pressure during the Mughal and British period (though we have wonderful Mughal Architecture and the Mughals did not destroy our country like the British did). During the British time freedoms of the people(specially of the artisans, technicians, businesses etc) were taken away and our traditional industry(and its dependancies) got killed in order to facilitate British monopoly and the British industrial revolution(this is apart from the plunder they committed). For all these reasons we are way behind in art, architecture etc today.
We got to encourage art and innovation based on sound and sensible fundamentals accompanied by research in Indian universities and schools and also pick up some principles and techniques from abroad where art has matured(Art, Architecture, Engineering, Math are closely related - if you knew about Leonardo Da Vinci and that he was one of the finest engineers of all time).
The Chinese Govt is systematically doing this and sending sponsored students continuously to foreign universities(to numerous faculties)in droves- their overall(holistic except for democracy) development is not simply magic- its systematic development- they dont need foreigners to implement projects to the extent we do because they learned technology by educating their citizens from all over the world. We need to take a leaf from them(saw how respected China is today?- 'learn from others(its not shameful to learn) and then outsmart them' is their principle regarding this).

The above is my personal opinion.

Good thing you weren't in charge! :P

Those etchings(?) are probably hardly noticable in the grand scheme and only called to attention because someone took a picture of them.

Also beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you may not like it but other probably will.

Alot of the time you wont notice in a airport as you go about your business and I agree as its a photo it come under more scrunity.

Dont worry about it mate, as long as the airport can run its services properly I would be happy with that & not some cosmetic enhancements at an Indian Airport or any airport across the world.

Relax Mailabode, I wasn't all that serious, see the ":P" smiley I used?

I know it was your opinion, I didn't totally agree with it so that's what I said what I said. When I said they probably aren't noticable in the grand scheme I meant they probably don't stick out unless you are approaching them. Personally I think it's a nice idea, rather unique.

You're saying "we could do things better" but who is to decide what is better? The guy who designed this may think this is better than what you've suggested.
