rkramesh, I'm not entirely sure what 1C is going to look like, but I do know that they're integrating it with the existing terminals. It should look like 1B as far as materials and lines go, but could have a lot in common with the design of terminal 1A.
I hope the new structure doesn't stand out as being different form 1A and B.

This is what 1A looks like post part-renovation (they're still working on it)...

The white wall with the cables hanging, is where the west end of 1C will connect.

True, but why have them ply only near the airports? I believe the entire city should have them.
The new BRTS King Long buses are weirdly coloured, but they're nice to look at, and ply on the city's arterial roads. There's a picture of one of 'em somewhere in this forum...
Here's some info from the BEST's website...

Some awesome pictures there.

From some past news on Mid-day and Mumbai Mirror, people have been complaining about King-Long buses. Many drivers have complained after they changed from regular BEST buses to the King Long ones. Here's the Mid-day article about it.

I do agree that we should ply Volvos/Mercedes throughout Mumbai.

It's just the intercity buses that are currently on offer. More to come, soon...

Thanks for the Nice pics KB - isnt Terminal 1-B a part of the domestic terminal series - I thought the 1 series were domestic and the 2 series are international.

Departure level

I dont recollect terminal 1 having a curved departure ramp as seen in 2 of your pics - is this new - ? I thought it was only perminal 2 A,B and c that had this curved departure ramps...

Otherwise the renovation has made it a different animal altogether...in the right direction...

rKramesh, terminal 1A opened in 1992 with Indian Airlines as the sole occupant. Kingfisher airlines has been using this teriminal as well, ever since it started operations in '05.

I am a bit confused now....

Are they building a new airport, expanding the existing one or both??

The Bombay Blue bar is new, yes. The upgrade to terminal 2 B is recent (and temporary). There used to be a bar in 2 A (not sure about 2 C)

Thanks KB.

SK- They are planning to do both.

While renovating(not really expanding) the old airport is undergoing right now, the new airport at Navi Mumbai is a long way to start undergo construction...

Thanks for the clarification BB and KB and the pics KB. The terminal is wearing new clothes inside - GVK seems a capable number - raises expectation for the brand new terminals coming up.

SK I know it might seems odd that the old terminals are bing done up even if they will be demolished, but the terminals were so poor and far behind the contemporary that GVK had to update them just to get them to be acceptable as a half decent airport till he new ones get built grounds up and ready for use in 3-4 years time.

makes sense i guess. Me been to CSIA only twice, and i must admit, it was horrendous with the typical Indian airport smell as soon as you walk out of the plane........

The private sector has become the savior of new India

It's not odd at all. I remember JFKs Terminal 4/IAB was renovated before it was demolished.
