In these signboards, what is written in Hindi 'Airline se nikas ka maarg', makes no sense.

Sahar elevated road to open in Jan 14 in time for launch of terminal 2

Somit Sen,TNN | Dec 9, 2013,

MUMBAI: Sahar elevated road's inauguration could be pushed back to January 2014 and may coincide with the opening of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport's terminal 2, said officials.

Flower beds will adorn the six-lane motorway, they added.

The bad news is that the launch of the elevated corridor could be pushed back to January 2014.

"The MMRDA is yet to complete work on a 1.8 km stretch. The Mumbai International Airport Ltd has 1.5 km stretches respectively. It is expected that the job will be wrapped up by the month-end," said a source.

The key link was scheduled to be opened this month. The work on a 1.8-km stretch by MMRDA and the remaining 1.5-km by MIAL is expected to be full ready by month end, the elevated corridor's launch -- which was scheduled for this month -- could perhaps be pushed ahead to 2014, sources said.

A source said the airport's new terminal could be commissioned in mid-January. "Since the authorities want the elevated bridge's launch to coincide with the opening of terminal 2, Mumbaikars may have to wait till January to experience a hassle-free journey," the source said. The 3.3-km corridor, which originates from Western Express highway in Andheri East and culminates at the international airport, will save 30 minutes of commuting time. It has been designed in such a way that it will benefit motorists coming from the north and south end of Andheri. Commuters can avoid the congested Sahar Road, which usually leads to traffic snarls and causes inordinate delays in reaching the international airport.

Work on constructing the elevated corridor began in January 2008 and its launch was slated for December 2012. But the Rs 377-crore project has already been delayed by a year.

"As far as the 1.8-km stretch, from W.E. highway to Hyatt Regency, is concerned, the MMRDA has almost completed the work. We are giving some finishing touches and the project will be completed by December 25," said MMRDA spokesperson Dilip Kawathkar.

The agency has finished work on a 100 m tunnel near the highway. "The corridor will be the one-of-its-kind in Mumbai. If you compare the road with the Lalbaug and J J flyovers, then you will find that this is the only link that has a width of 28 metres and is supported on single piers. The Mumbai International Airport Ltd will beautify the entire stretch on each side with flower beds and shrubs. It will be a great experience when you zip through the corridor in just five minutes in near future." said MMRDA chief engineer Sharad Sabnis.

Yes. There is no need for se and ka. Airline Nikas Marg would have been sufficient. And seeing that they're using Zone in English then Kshetra would have been the right word instead of Marg.

I think just using एअरलाईन से प्रस्थान should be sufficient।

Domestic is not shifting now. Its not going to happen until full terminal including SE part is ready.

Etihad adds more flights from Delhi, Mumbai; announces major expansion

With the Government approving the 24 per cent stake in Jet Airways to Etihad Airways, Etihad has announced major expansion of its Indian operations.

The first stage of the Etihad Airways strategy includes additional flights or the introduction of larger aircraft on existing routes to India.

More flights

The initial flight increases by Etihad Airways are Mumbai and New Delhi: 7 to 14 flights per week (immediate), Kochi: 7 to 14 flights per week ( from June 2014), Bangalore and Chennai: 7 to 14 flights per week (July 2014) and Hyderabad: 7 to 14 flights per week (October 2014).

“As well as more flights, Etihad Airways is introducing larger aircraft in some markets,” the statement adds.

On the Abu Dhabi-Mumbai and Abu Dhabi – New Delhi routes, evening flights with narrow-bodied Airbus A320s have been upgraded to wide-bodied Airbus A340 and A330 jets. On the Mumbai services, this includes introduction of First Class cabins on the evening A340 flights.

New Airbus A321 aircraft, seating 174 passengers, will be used on all Abu Dhabi-Chennai services, and between Abu Dhabi and Kochi from June 2014.

The capacity issue is not in Mumbai....Its going to be in Abu Dhabi!!! The richest emirate of UAE still has an age old terminal from the 80s refurbished over time that is being used way above its capacity!! The new terminal will only be complete by 2017.....
