Thanks for that, the domestic airport looks so ugly man. I am so confused right now because the domestic travellers are also going to use T3 as well.

Is the Hindustan Times engaging in sensationalism?

Is that even a question?
Of course a unified terminal is preferable, but since when was 3 separate terminals a problem?! How many airports in the world operate with 3 or more separate terminals serving domestic carriers? Here in Boston we have 4 separate terminals, all of which serve domestic carriers and 2 of which serve international carriers. I have never wound up at the wrong terminal, and I would think it nearly never happens with other travelers. Even in the final plan there will be 4 terminals, T3-T6. What's the issue? DIAL simply needs to post elevated highway boards displaying what airline is operating from what terminal. These need to be built keeping in mind upheaval come 2010. On the subject of HT, I remember their front page headline article the day before I left Delhi. Now I don't particularly like the Congress party at all, but HT was ragging the government for having made the US nuke deal when there are, apparently, enough uranium at home. The GoI just hasn't mined it, and if they did, we'd be all set. They said there was enough uranium to generate 1,000MW for 10 years. We don't ever have to make a foreign deal! Great! Of course, they conveniently ignore that 1,000MW is actually very little power, and that 10 years pass by in an instant. They also conveniently ignored that the US deal opened India to the entire NSG. But when you take the article and face-value and don't think about what it is saying, it sure does sound like the government cheated us all! After reading that article, my regard for HT fell below my regard for GoI. |

Nope, merely stating a fact. There would not be any confusion if the way of life in India was for people to read road signage and accordingly follow instructions. You don't need a single traffic marshal (the article states that traffic marshals will be deployed). All you need is standardised signage that confirm to certain specifications and standards that people will get used to seeing at airports all around the country. I have navigated my around in complex multi terminal airports like JFK,LAX and LHR without issues like many others.

Oh...my...God...
Words cannot really describe the work GMR has done here. They have outdone themselves. Of course we were expecting a quality terminal, and we knew how great a job GMR did at HIAL, but I had no idea 1D would turn out this well. And to think, in just a year and a half, this will be Delhi's LCC terminal! My only quip is that I'm not sure if placing the LCD displays directly on the wall behind the check-in counters was a good idea. In terminals where canopies have been installed and the screens are brought forward, the result has been slightly better. Still, the feeling of airyness and "larger than it is" has been brilliantly achieved. |

I would think so? Clearly there is much to be done on the exterior, and probably still final finishings on the inside. I do not know whether all parts of the interior have had basic finishing, though presumably not since the photographer did not photograph those areas.

Good Heavens!!! I am Absolutely gob smacked!!
This certainly looks as good as the interiors of any of the latest international terminal. Light airy, with a pleasing colou scheme, it gives me a feel of the new T5 at Heathrow. Especially dig those those stylish curvy maroon checkin counters, and the indian motifs on the Brown pyramid pillar cladding. This certainly raises the bar of expectation of things to come from GMR. I so appreciate their vision and execution of these projects - it certainly comes across as a breath of fresh worldclass air in India and promises some world beating things to come. If this is the future LCC terminal then I am most eagerly awaiting the real McCoy when Bharath's largest terminal gets completed. Hats off to you yet again GMR!!! Keep the Bharathiya star shining !!!

Where else would they put the monitors in that design? Why do you feel it was a bad idea? How would it be better if they were brought forward? |

the pics aren't very clear...can we get more pics...the terminal doesn't look very good...but I won't be surprised...they are planning to turn this into a low-cost carrier terminal only, after T3 is built.

need more things like these.. to make it look unique and original. Otherwise most of the brand new airport terminals in India look very structured, not much life.
I think Delhi will be an exception though.. lets wait for more pics

I just have one word man, WOW!!!!
The terminal looks great, lively, and colorful (better than the boring glassy aesthetic feeling). Truly Exceptional. Waiting for more pictures as well. Long Live Privatization!! |
