Yeah but it's not getting any night lighting according to Culwulla who rang Grocon, so I mean it's hardly a factor in it's favour.

Here is a cool shot of Q1 getting hit by lightning!

Comment can not be made on this, as it is far from being proven. I'll eat my hat if there's no exterior lighting of Eureka at night, I don't care what any "contacts" say

Oh, and mic, very nice interior photos - but they're actually of Freshwater

I have to go with the Q1. It really enhances the Gold Coast's skyline and I actually really like the crown. THe Eureka is nice and unique, but just not as great aand elegent as the Q1.

Looks like Q1 is the winner here. Great lighting, popular sleek, green and curvacious design, awesome podium. The internationals have spoken (and the Aussies too unfortunately).

Q1 is simply stunning.

I don't quite get Eureka. It is a bunch of weird shapes thrown together with some white lines all over the place, it is then topped off with some brown thing that has red pipe down the side. What the hell? It is tall so who gives a damn I guess.

It is Symbolic of a rebellion in the state of Victoria which almost broke out into a civil war. The Colours are representitive of the Eureka Stockade.

Blue and White - The Eureka Flag
Gold - The rebellion occured during the Gold Rush
Red - The blood spilt during the battle.

The tower actually means somthing to Australians, and more importantly Victorians.

Eureka Stockade
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Eureka stockade)
Jump to: navigation, search

The Eureka Stockade was a miners' revolt in 1854 in Victoria, Australia against the officials supervising the gold-mining region of Ballarat due to many reasons, including heavily priced mining items and the expense of a digging license. It is often regarded as being an event of equal significance to Australian history as the storming of the Bastille was to French history, but almost equally often dismissed as an event of little long-term consequence. Although the revolt failed, it was a watershed event in Australian politics, and is often described controversially as the "Birth of Australian Democracy".

Uhmmm... I'm not sure. I think I would say they are tied for aesthetics.

Christ, as expected this turned out to be a pissing contest!!

Just because twenty or thirty forumers vote one way or the other does not mean either building is better than the other - it's an individuals choice. Both buildings are great and I am sure that the vast majority of forumers would love to have either or both buildings in their city.

The fact that more people voted for Q1 than Eureka on this occasion means sweet jack shit - especially as the vast majority of them have not seen either building in person.

Each building in its own right will hold it's own place in the history of Australian buildings.

It's really quite simple. The thread is a comparison of "Q1 vs Eureka" and also has the word "voting" in it (despite the absence of a poll). This would indicate to me that the aim of the thread is for one of the two to come out on top. In this case, Q1 going by the international response. Build a bridge.

Gee I wonder where you're from and how old you are? I am from Melbourne and I'm fairly certain I prefer Eureka, but I haven't seen Q1 in the flesh and recognise the positive response Q1 is getting in this poll from the international forumers who have commented.

We might listen if you actually tell us why.

Some people in Melbourne might criticise Q1 because its cladding was done on the cheap (Sunland's other projects are top quality) but at least we don't call it "******* ugly" as you like to put it.

But likewise, most of us think that Eureka's black air vents aren't very well hidden, and the opening windows, while providing a useful function, can break the continuity of the facade. The podium is also at risk of dating quickly, but it's hidden behind other buildings anyway.

The great thing about seeing E in real life is that you don't get any compression artifacts on the stripes.
