I don't know about every 'galleria' but surely most of 'em are 'public streets' (for istance Milano Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and napoli Galleria Umberto Primo)

worlds most beautiful malls..isn't that an oxymoron i think malls are cheap for the most part; people often confuse luxury with class and so forth

I am not sure if it was mentioned already before, but I think the best recent shopping mall is Victoria Square in Belfast.

There might exist far larger shopping centres (even though its not small either), definitely there might exist ones where stuff is more affordable, but show me a recent shopping mall that integrates in such a superior way in the old town of a city, not destroying the urban feel, but improving it. A shopping mall, that does not feel like a mall but like an old style gallery, just in a modern style.

As I have said, I have yet to see something better with my own eyes than Victoria Square.

I wish Newcastle upon Tyne had something like this, as opposed to the God-awful Eldon Square.

Some of the new City Centre malls in the UK are looking great, much better than what was thrown up in the 70's/80's.

Now that Westfield (an Australian company) is wanting a larger slice of the UK market, expect a lot more gargantuan suburban malls to start popping up. They've already infected much of Australia (especially Sydney) - hopefully they use their brains in the UK and don't just throw up monolithic concrete boxes with fancy interiors.

My favourite mall in the UK is shepherds bush, which is unique in design and architecture and has a high level of quality in it's completion. Trafford Center above however, looks tacky and an architectual mess. A jumble of confused schools all mixed together like a childrens baking session - through everything sweet in at once and expect it to taste nice. This is the sort of architectual acrobats you usually find outside of Europe where they don't have any real understanding of traditional schools and patch together dumbed down designs the designers saw in reference books. It's quite a shame to actually see one of these within Europe.
