Ideas about the TGV

i think it will definitely be very expensive investment. The smart thing is to contract a credit from the EU, and give the project to the French firms. On the other hand, an important way is to give the exclusive concession to the company itself.
This has the advantage of giving it to the private, and also minimizing the investment from the government funds.

The problem that has to be thought about though, is similar to one thought of by China. That is, all the people that initially tended to have hotels and motels...in the road between different cities will die off. Travelers would not need to stop in those places.
-On the other hand, it will decrease the number of accidents and congestion in road traffic.
- The TGV is subsistuting good of airplanes. People will therefore start using the TGV rather than take the plane between national tickets. Hence, the investment in the airports should be directed towards the TGV project.

I'm wondering how expensive will be the tickets... Well, they're not building TGV only for tourists, right?

Railway: ONCF to add 24 trains to its fleet

The first train of a series of 24, made by the Italian group Ansaldobreda on behalf of Morocco, will arrive in the port of Casablanca on July 9.

The remaining trains will be delivered at the pace of two trains per month until July 2007, announced the Minister of Equipment and Transports, Karim Ghellab.

The minister, accompanied by the director general of the National Office for Railroads (ONCF) and a team of technicians of the Office, paid Monday a visit to the workshop where these trains are manufactured in Pistoia (Florence region), reported MAP news agency.

The aim of the visit was to check the conformity of these trains to the Moroccan request and to give the green light for their delivery.

Ghellab indicated, on this occasion, that these trains will start working on the Casablanca-Fez axis, from the end of the year, when work on the line linking Rabat and Fez is finished.

He added that the trip's duration will be reduced significantly, from three hours and a half to two hours and a quarter.

The minister also stressed that the arrival of these trains will increase the capacities of the ONCF by approximately 40%.

This “will allow it to pursue the development of rail transport in Morocco, which has seen an average increase of 11% per annum, during the last four years,” which represents more than 21 million passengers a year, he said.

With a cost of almost MAD 2 billion, the contract for manufacturing these trains of 400 places each, was signed two years ago, following a public tender.

He visto un reportaje en 2M, estos trenes seran de color gris con banda naranja y con el nuevo logo de ONCF, estos trenes seran diseñados para alcanzar los 160 km/h (en Italia estan diseñados para alcanzar los 140 km/h).

Yes they are an improved double-decker version of the ones already used in Italy. According to the ONCF they have been chosen due to the similarity of the moroccan railway system with that of italy.

The italian ones look like this:

Thats great that the government is finally enhancing the train system. I feel they are probably trying to privatize the company too. Thats why they are investing so heavily on those technologies

Hahaha, it's ok you want to support your country and stuff... but do you have to lie for that? Show me a Moroccan train that is better than our oldest train

Well. A train from Madrid to Algeciras takes longer than Tanger to Marrakech while they use kind of similar trains.
Only the AVE is nice in spain, and that one that runs along the mediteranean.

The railway system of Morocco is one of the best of Africa, not only it but also is integrated in in the European system (Interrail for example) since it fulfills the recheese wedges necessary for it to be.
