This building looks like CityPlex in Tulsa. Gold and White, very 1970s.

Only it's twice or thrice as tall as Tulsa's CityPlex.
Not very 1970s but actually very 1920's (and I don't mean this as a criticism in the sens of 'outdated'). Try to google 'constructivism' (wikipedia) and you'll know what MC is all about...

This quite spectacular building is not simply a skyscraper but a town within a town (a bit like Khan Satyr in Astana though very different in its aims and look)

"The building’s conception envisages a well-planned, fashionable city district that, instead of being laid out horizontally, has been constructed vertically. The key notion behind the building’s design was to take several separate, yet interdependent, spheres and bring them together to create an architecturally unified construct, where personal space and a successful business environment coexist harmoniously. Premium Class A office space dovetails with luxury apartments, as well as shops, restaurants, cafés, bars, a spa and fitness centre and parking."

It HAS a core. Gunslider just posted picture to show you:

It's just that with this construction method (when Peri system is used) core very often doesn't rise much above the structure. I'm not an expert on this, but we have two towers u/c in Poland that use Peri systems. They both have cores but they also don't rise much above the structure as well.

I was not commenting on its use, impact, or relativism in any way other than the basic color scheme.

648' vs. 1247', so, almost twice as tall. Still ugly.

I think a lot of Americans, at least, associate gold towers with casino hotel towers (Gold Strike in Tunica, Horseshoe, Atlantic City, etc) and there is probably some cultural bias in us that sees gold clad towers as attempting to create a sense of luxury and a projection of wealth but instead coming off as obnoxious and cheap. I would point to the headquarters of Ewing Oil in the TV show "Dallas" from the 1980s, which were two gold suburban towers. I've only personally seen the color scheme pulled off well in Macau, where it is supposed to be gaudy.

I hate to be a design-provincial, though, and I'm sure the Russians love it.

MY OPINION IS that this skysc. is great. It's like some bronze monolith.. very bold and interesting design.

Go MC tower, go!

Thank you, jczart, for the explanation for the reason of rejection of the Mercury City Tower's glass color.

Why is the colour of almost every skyscraper in Moscow looks so dark? I mean the cladding, colour of the glass ...

My favourite one is Federation Tower which has perfect height and pretty good design as well
