Don't think it matters that the Shard may not be as tall, IMO the "Shard" is a much better design, far more like a real skyscraper should look like which has evolved from the iconic Chrysler bld. in NYC

Well, perhaps it is already well known and quite established fact Moscow got an impressive and massive skyline, many neolithic layers of architecture laying upon each other. The Stalin's pseudo-gothic silhouettes and neo-Moscow's spires of Luzhkov era are crowding on onion domes made of gold. Moscow got it all. Moscow gets it expansive and grandiose, building city of giants, it will develop such metropolis cost what it may. Yet besides this beautiful tendency in architecture, it is hardly paying any attention to the details.
One wants to live in the city which takes care of the things on the human level and personal scale. And exactly on this level little is made.
What about the pavement, poorly designed advertisement billboards and worn facades? Where is the aesthetics of the streetlights poles? What happened to the Moscow's sky, crossed with so many wires? Who will take care of beautiful Stalin's smaller scale buildings, disfigured with air-conditioners upon facades and newly installed windows that are not matching the old ones on the same facade? Or so many loggias installed on the balconies? I may continue like that for pages and pages. I look with an optimism city hall will pay attention to this soon enough.

'Constructivism' finally coming to roost in Moscow

http://londonsidelines.blogspot.com/...l-academy.html

MercuryCity is a futuristic 'replica', an embodiment of those theories...

The cladding is strident but then a step ahead too, a cut above the rest of those tedious steely blue skyscrapers that can be seen everywhere, from Houston to Dubai, from Astana to Teheran...

I hope you are joking. Shard building is a beautiful skyscraper, but has nothing to do with ESB. ESB is a classical early art deco style building with evolving silhouette made of steps, Shard is modern cone-shaped structure made of glass and smooth facade. And I simply don't get why English people here think it's their duty to spit toward MCT.

I think the building has a great design but the color they choose... is at least unusual

I hope when is finish, looks good on the amazing skyline of Moscow

Read his post again. There is no mention of the ESB.

Oh, I meant Chrysler, not ESB, although they are both from the same era. The point was that Shard has nothing to do with any of NYC old skyscrapers. Another point was that I don't see the point for Englishmen to come here and enviously spit toward MIBC. I mean, the whole idea to compare tastes is such a huge display of the bad taste on its own. Why would they come and humiliate themselves in front of everyone like that?

What to sell it is more than apartments. At them even advertizing now goes "Be in gold one hundred, buy apartments in a gold tower"

They suddenly realized grey is an insanely boring color, and went with the opposite.

How many reasons beyond "They liked it that way" can there be?
