"Ohta" begins to build in a few months, "IBC 16" is on hold. Do you know something we do not know?

I apologize for my mistake! One member argued that projects are not in sight "Ohta"(472m) and "16 IBC 1"(327), so I wrote that the speed is 16 IBC on hold.

Therefore, it is true that the building "16 IBC-1" is under construction.

Myxin, the height?

This building is really beautiful, and its golden facade makes it even more impressive.

Why the Soviet Union, despite the global superpower status, decided not to invest in tall buildings such as the U.S.?

This tower seems to look way better in the dark than during nighttime.

The cladding just reminds me way too much of copper-like-cladded commie-monsters such as the (luckily now gone) Palast der Republik in Berlin...

It is a long story. In 1920s SU was recovering from Civil War, was not much of a superpower; plans to build skyscrapers came about in late 30s; they have been disprupted by WWII; after WWII seven skyscrapers have been built in Moscow, and a few more in other SU cities; after death of Stalin Khruschev ended skyscraper construction (and one partially built was dismantled). During Brezhnev tenure some scrapers have been built. However, Russian big cities, being European cities with traditional historic centres, are not that well suited for skyscraper construction as opposed to American cities. For the same reason there are not that many scrapes in Europe.

Everything looks like something else to some extend. Not necessarily this building is desired to be reminding the DDR's palace. This building is representing a long tradition of Russian avante-guard and Soviet constructivism. I don't care if it's outdated, I don't care Russia builds old-style, Russia needs a very apotheosis of long ago abandoned constructivism, to which Russia is a true mother. This will be a long awaited milestone in the world architecture. London can build pop-style Foster's needles and pyramids, it's beautiful, but too mainstream-ish.
I would prefere if New York would still build wonderful stone gothic and art deco skyscrapers, not those Hong Kong-ish glassy crap with no character, but it doesn't. I personally think Moscow needs more Stalin's gothic wedding cake skyscrapers, because they are beautiful. After all, architectural critics are opportunists. But other people love and enjoy this kind of architecture.

Although, I like the color, the shape and the amazing constructivism marriage to the gothic silhouette, I really think they could get better quality of the cladding glass. It's really wavy.
