Amazing renders, STR. I doubt that they will use spires unless the spire was freaking massive and you couldn't picture the building without it, sort of like the Chrysler Building's top or the to-be FS in Chicago. If they use twig spires to top these buildings, I will burn them all down!!

Niiiice as usual, STR.

Manhattan will be facing an office space shortage by 2008, so hopefully that creates an incentive to not resort to spires to make up the height deficit. In any event, this is all very exciting news. I'd love to see Lower Manhattan return to its former glory.

WOW, tower 2 could possibly be tall then the freedom tower. That would leave a sting.

Yeah, that would be funny. I think it should just be Freedom Tower, minus the spire.

http://online.wsj.com/article_email/...zgxMjc0Wj.html has pics of what the designers have done on other jobs.

Overall, the five planned buildings would create 10 million square feet -- approximately 6.2 million square feet for the three Church Street buildings, 2.6 million square feet in the Freedom Tower and as much as 1.2 million square feet in the fifth building.

this is quite a bit of space so most of the space in the building must be auctuall floor space and not spire unless the buildings are just really fat

"Noob" here! I have a question that I can't seem to figure out.

Does this talk about new FT designs mean the old FT ver. 2.0 designs have been killed? Ie. the version with the "shattered" towers surrounding the center FT spired/spotlight centerpiece???

If so that's quite a bombshell *er* no puns intended. But I'm shocked they'd go back again for a ver. 3.0. In any case I'd love to see a cluster "super" towers like shown in the photos above. It would add a lot of height and drama to the skyline much like the shattered towers design imo.

The design is alright, better not be nearly the same size and identical like the Detroit Ren Center! This may put The Empire State Building out of the tallest top 5 of NYC for once!
