The majority of Muslims are non-Arabs (Indonesia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, some African nations and so on).

I think it has more to do with the script and the Holy Quran which was written in Arabic. That's maybe the reason why people start to think everyone with a headscarf is Arabic.
Tehran is indeed a very nice place!!! Great pictures man, I love Iran.

The Azadi Tower is the symbol of Tehran, Iran, and marks the entrance to this large metropolitan city.

Built in 1971 in commemoration of the 2500th anniversary of the Persian Empire, this large monument was named the Shahyad Tower (meaning "Remembrance of the Shahs (Kings)") but dubbed Azadi (Freedom) after the Iranian Revolution of 1979. It is 50 metres (148 feet) tall and is completely clad in cut marble.

The architect is Hossein Amanat who had won a competition to design the monument. Azadi Tower combines the Sassanid and Islamic architecture styles. It is a part of the Azadi cultural complex, located in Tehran's Azadi square in an area of some 50,000 mē. There is a museum and several fountains underneath the tower.

It is thought that the Milad Tower, (in Tehran) will replace this long-time symbol of Tehran, although many observers have doubted this claim.

"By evidence, the history of architecture and urban planning in Iran (Persia) dates back some 10 thousand years ago. Persians were among the first to use mathematics, geometry, and astronomy in architecture. Teppe Sialk, an important ziggurat near Kashan, built 7000 years ago, represents one such prehistoric site in Persia whose inhabitants were the initiators of a simple and rudimentary housing technique."

Hi all:
these are some more pictures. the big monument that you see in the square as darius mentioned is the Azadi monument an is just next to the international airport so when you visit Iran that is the first thing you will see when you come out of the airport. Thanks to Mr. Iranshah7 as well.
Enjoy

Inside the Azadi (Freedom) monument you will find a cultural centre with a library, a museum and art galleries that display works by contemporary artists.

Sorry Opium. It's funny although I lived in Tehran for 12 years I never went up there and have no idea that what is up there. Does anybody know if it is an observation deck or not?
Thanks
