Things are happening so fast, that we need to start thinking about traffic management for that area. Is anybody talking about any grade separators (on IT corridor) for catering to the increased traffic flow to the area? Or will we have to wait till a 20,000 car traffic jam extends till Kovalam?

- Yes PC, we need to upgrade the highway to 6-lane for starters. Already, with 18,000 professionals, Kerala's IT hub is causing major traffic hassles.

A 6-lane road with service lanes, and grade seperators at the junctions between Kazhakkoottam and Inchakkal would be a good way to start off.

By 2010, upwards of 40-50,000 people will be working here. Add Technocity to the equation and by 2012, over 100,000 people will be commuting on this road. Looks like the dire possibility of another Hosur Road!

Any plans??

Ajay, we can hope "Hosur Road" will be congestion free once the "Elevated Highway" becomes a reality....

Is our government planning to widen the NH bypass to 4-lane or 6-lanes?

Cheers!!

Mahesh,
The Hosur road situation will not be applicable here since it has got multi road access. There is a much broader road passing through the rear side of TP. Also there is a beach road from airport parallel to the bypass. Then there is a link road to MC road. What we need to do is, just improve these existing roads. Offcourse the road infront of the TP can be made in to a master road.

There is no 'planning' left as of now. It is done years back.

I have seen the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the NHDP phase from Kazhakuttom to Kavalkinar (in TN). It is a 4 lane/6 lane (near junctions) carriageway passing through Vizhinjam. It was supposed to be put for bidding.

The Toll booth at Akkulam would be a ten lane one. It is having 'accelaration/decceleration lanes, truck lay byes, bus bays and 'median shoulders'. That means it would be totally different from the widened section in Cherthala-Ankamaly where only widening is done. An example for what it would look like is the section between Tambaram and Tindivanam in Chennai

The present imbroglio is due to the dumbfoundness of the present Govt not to agree to a BOT scheme for highway development.

See the updated technopark land request list.

Toonz has requested 100 acres.
L& T has requested 50 acres in Technocity.

http://www.technopark.org/landr.htm

If you add up every thing, will this 507 acres be enough? What is GoK waiting for?

It seems that the State Govt. has finally agreed in principle to NHAI's funding system for the highway expansion, this was the main bottle neck.

It had already been agreed that the Kazhakkoottam - Kovalam stretch will be taken up on a priority basis due to the fact that is fast becoming one of the heaviest used stretches of road in the State, mostly owing to the almost 20,000 techies at Technopark.

In view of the rapid progress with the Technocity project, I hope that the immediate development is extended as far as Thonakkal. This stretch of about 25-30 Kms of highway accounts for more than Rs 10,000 Crores of incoming investment, even without considering the massive Vizhinjam project. Cheers!

Engineering design competition held.

Showcasing budding engineering talents

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Technopark hosted the second edition of its annual contest, “Technotop 2007,” here on Monday to reward outstanding engineering talents among students with innovative ideas that can be put to the good use of society.

Prototypes developed by 17 contestants from all over the country were evaluated by a judging committee chaired by energy consultant for UNIDO V.K. Damodharan at the event, co-hosted by Degree Controls India Ltd., a subsidiary of Degree Controls Inc., U.S.

Students from Kongu Engineering College at Perundurai in Erode were adjudged winners of the contest for developing an “automated rationing technique for the public distribution system.” It is a mechanism, activated by a radio sensor card, which automatically measures out rice, kerosene and other ration articles as allocated to a particular customer. They received a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and certificates.

The second place went to students of PES College of Engineering, Aurangabad, for their “aqua silencer,” an exhaust mechanism with less noise and less pollution than conventional silencers. They won a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, in addition to certificates.

Students of Amal Jyothi College of Engineering at Koovappally in Kottayam received the third prize carrying a purse of Rs.10,000 and certificates. An “intelligent light dimmer mechanism” was their invention. It enables a vehicle to dim its lights automatically when another coming in the opposite direction dims them in the night. IT Secretary Ajay Kumar gave away the prizes.

Technopark Chief Executive Officer N. Radhakrishnan Nair, speaking at the prize distribution ceremony, said Technotop was conceived as part of Technopark’s efforts to promote technological entrepreneurship.

After its ground-breaking and immensely successful incubation facility, T-BIC, it is heartening to see a giant like Technopark conduct events like Technotop to promote entrepreneurship in the non-software arena.

3 CRORE MODERN AYURVEDA HOSPITAL IN TRIVANDRUM IN TIE UP WITH TECHNOPARK FIRMS
Source: http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?newsid=1130806
Quote:
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Age-old solutions to new-age maladies — that’s what ayurveda firms are trying to sell nowadays. With a change in patients’ profile over the few years, most of the ayurveda hospital chains based in Kerala are devising plans and packages to woo IT professionals. And it pays; techies are already queuing up at the clinics for a healthy weekend.

“We have a package for the IT professionals, who have predictable illness like cervical spondylitis, back pain, eye problems and gastro troubles like acidity. We are planning to tie up with a few companies in Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and offer treatment to their employees,” KP Wilson, managing director of Thrissur-based Kandamkulathi Group, said.

The group, which plans a Rs3-crore ayurveda super specialty hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, has already entered into an agreement with Accentia Technologies to offer ayurvedic treatment as an incentive to its employees. Most of the firms have a steady client list that extends to the UK and the US. “We have a lot of software professionals coming here with complaints of stress and related illness. Even foreign professionals approach us through our website. They prefer ayurveda because only this system offers long-standing relief. Painkillers only give instant relief from spondylitis,” Dr Babu Raj of Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala said.

He, however, is sceptic of specific packages. “It is not easy to draw up a package for new-gen workforce. We have to take into consideration the body constitution, lifestyle pattern and type of work of each patient. More over, we have to adapt the ancient system to the new breed of diseases. We abide by the scriptures but change the herbal ingredients of the medicines sometimes,” he added.

Kerala Ayurveda Pharmacy Ltd is also offering special schemes to techies. “Our patient profile is changing. Whereas elders used to come for ayurveda treatment earlier, more and more youngsters opt for ayurveda now. Our centres in Bangalore and Chennai have a lot of software professionals seeking treatment on Saturdays and Sundays,” Dr Binoy D Das said.

“We have packages for them. Shirodhara for relieving stress, synchronised massage to ease minor pains and so on. But then not all treatment can be common to all,” he said. KAPL too has offered privilege treatment schemes for IT companies in Technopark. “If it works out, the employees just have to flash their ID card at our hospitals,” he added.
Cheers!!!

Toonz Animation comes out of outsource worker image

Sunday November 4 2007 06:45 IST

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

T'URAM: Toonz Animation India has bade good bye to the outsource works as it has proved successful in own and co-productions.

"We have emerged from the shadows of an outsourcing hub for Western clients to the status of a co-producer with media giants like BBC, Disney, Sony Entertainment etc. Today, Toonz is co-producing Hanuman Returns・ the sequel to India's first successful animated movie Hanuman, which is due to hit theatres during the later part of December this year," said Toonz CEO P Jayakumar.

Speaking at the 8th anniversary celebrations of the company, Jayakumar also announced that the company had entered into agreements with Beijing University and Shengyang University in China to set up centres of excellence in animation training.

"Our training centers across India under the aegis of Toonz Academy have been a huge success and we would like to further that by emerging as a global film and media training centre," he said. Toonz has already begun talks with the State Government for setting up a film and media training centre at Kinfra Park in Thiruvananthapuram.

According to him, Toonz has not been concentrating much on the Indian market as the animation industry itself is in infancy stage in the country.

Toonz has now become one of the largest animation production houses in the South Asia region with a client list that include BBC, Disney, Sony Entertainment, Paramount, Hallmark and Warner Brothers. Apart from Thiruvananthapuram, Toonz has set up Animation academies in Mumbai, Nagpur and Delhi, and has plans to set up more in other cities in India. The company currently employs over 600 animation experts in its various facilities in India and around 400 across the world.

New building in Technopark

Also news that GoK found 75 acres of land near Kollam Bye pass to set up the IT park. It is a good news that with the arrival of Technocity and small parks in the neighboring districts and with the widening of TVM-KLM to 4 lanes, the NH-47 will between these 2 districts will be a hot spot for the IT industry in the future.

Phase II

UST Global campus (Phase I completion: end-2008) : 1.5 million sq.ft
Infosys Campus (Phase I completion: end-2008) : 1.5 million sq.ft
