New residential/commercial development

This 7.5 acre plot of land is now being developed into a residential complex comprising apartments, serviced apartments and hostels aimed to cater to the needs of the thousands of techies at Technopark. With over 10,000 already working there and another 20,000 joining in by 2007, the demand for classy accomodation in nearby areas is growing.

Firms like L&T and the Rahejas are planning major developments within and around Technopark as well. L&T has already announced its plans to set up a 35 acre hybrid IT-and-residential park as part of Technopark Phase III. We are not talking about a single building here, as they are setting up elsewhere in Kerala, but of an entire IT Park, on the lines of HiTec City.

Overseas firms from Qatar and Saudi Arabia have also announced their keen interest in TP Phase III and Technocity. As usual, lets wait for the projects to happen, rather than spinning up wild claims.

In a repeat of an earlier frame, we see Pampa and Periyar in the foreground, with (left to right) Padmanabham, Gayathri, Amstor Software and M-Square buildings further away. We can see that Padmanabham is undergoing final finishing work. The Asian School of Business has already started functioning there till it moves to its own campus in 2007.

Technopark operates an internal bus service called Techno Express which connects various points inside the Park to transportation hubs nearby like the Kazhakkoottam Railway station and Pallippuram Bus Terminal. The companies themselves run dozens of buses to various points in the city.

With progress on the IT Corridor concept, it is expected that links will be set up with the International Airport, Kochuveli Satellite Railway Station and the long distance bus terminal at Eanchakkal, all of which lie within a few kilometers of Technopark. The combination is just what is needed by a world class IT destination like Trivandrum.

Bus Stop

Hi Ajay,
There is a small story behind this Bus stop. TP didn't actually have this earlier. It was erected during the shooting of the movie 'Rain Rain Come Again' by the film crew. Once the shooting got over TP made it a permanent thing.
regards,
Rajesh

Technocity to come up near Technopark, Trivandrum.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Techno City near Pallippuram soon

Friday October 14 2005 12:58 IST

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The proposed ‘Techno City’ will come up on a 500-acre land between Pallippuram and Mangalapuram near the Technopark here.

The Techno City project is being conceived as a township, which will address most of the long-pending demands of the IT companies and techies working in the Technopark here. The Techno City will be set up as a joint venture initiative. However, the modalities for the public-private participation for the project are yet to be decided.

As per the initial proposal, the government will have to spend at least Rs 100 crore for the acquisition of land earmarked for the ambitious venture for creating basic infrastructure facilities such as power, water and road facilities.According to sources, the initial proposal is yet to get the ratification from the Finance Department.

As per the proposal, apart from the facility centres in the IT and IT-enabled services sectors, the Techno City will also meet the residential purposes of those working in companies in the Techno City.It will also house education institutions, hospitals, entertainment centres and commercial complexes. The 440/220 KV line of the National Power Grid is expected to supply adequate power to the Techno City.

The logic behind the setting up of a Techno City as a joint venture is that large-scale development over a considerable area of land is more conducive and acceptable when creating infrastructure facilities for IT and ITES industries.

Sounds awesome! Hope it pans out fast! Technopark has been running out of space due to the massive demand from IT firms. Quietly, the 2.2 million sft of current built-up space and over 350 acres of current and under acquisition land has been lapped by leading IT firms. No fanfare, but TP is FULL

Technopark set for massive investments

IANS

The Technopark in Trivandrum may well be the next stop for massive investments in Kerala ."We have already identified 500 acres of land, about five kilometres from the Technopark campus. There are plans to build a Rs.10 billion Techno city, which would have IT and bio-technology companies, residential complex, schools and everything that a technocity needs," V.J. Jayakumar, acting CEO of Technopark, told IANS.

Currently 1.5 million sq feet of space is used by 80 IT companies that employ 10,000 people at the 150-acre Technopark campus. By the end of next year, another 600,000 sq ft building will be ready and that has already been sold out.Add to that 236 acres of land that have been marked for development, of which 50 acres have been given to Infosys and 40 acres to Tata Consultancy Services.

"We expect that by 2008, an investment of close to Rs.10 billion would take place in the already acquired land and the total staff strength would be around 50,000 people in the Technopark campus," said Jayakumar. He said the Techno city would have to be built with private participation and already some have shown interest in infrastructure development.

IBS Update

Here is a clipping from the IBS site about its Trivandrum plans:

IBS to ramp up operations in Technopark, Trivandrum; plans afoot to have its own fully equipped building complex

Trivandrum (India), May 24: As a first step towards actualising its plan to ramp up its development operations, IBS Software Services, headquartered in Trivandrum, has acquired 5 acres of land in the Technopark campus, at Kazhakootam. IBS signed the deed with the Technopark officials on 23rd May 2005.

Announcing the acquisition, VK Mathews, CMD – IBS Software Services said, “We have now reached a stage where we should look for our own office complex which will help us to be together and address our growth requirements. We will be building a state-of-the-art facility, which can accommodate, when fully built, up to 2,000 staff.”

The company has acquired a prime location close to the Technopark main gate, and plans to build a fully equipped,self-sufficient multi-storied building complex, in order to house its rapidly expanding software development facilities. Currently IBS Trivandrum operates out of the Nila and Chandragiri buildings at Technopark.

Since its inception in 1997, IBS has recorded consistent growth in turnover as well as employee strength. IBS has recently commenced operations from its second development centre at Infopark, Kochi. For IBS, the next few years are crucial in terms of growth, with an IPO tentatively scheduled for October 2006. The decision to build its own software development complex
re-affirms IBS’ bonding with Technopark as well as with Trivandrum. The state Government’s progressive IT policies, best-in-class infrastructure and availability of talent locally have gone a long way in encouraging IBS to make Technopark, Trivandrum, the hub of its global operations.

Nice to see another original investor in Technopark doing so well!
