They are a bit of a tacky concept, and do pander to baser tastes (god do I sound pompous). But just because I dont frequent such places dosent mean that others wont get some joy from it. The hoo-haa about 24 hour boozing made out the end of the world was nigh, but its turned out alright. Some places like Blackpool are better suited than Manchester, its not got much else going for it im afraid to say. And that town NEEDs a boost. Agreed, Manc isnt perhaps the best location.

[QUOTE=neil]I'm a manager for a betting shop, and I'm in work right now. I find your comment totally unacceptible. I have just served a Doctor and a Solicitor with in the space of an hour, ....[QUOTE]

And what about the rest of them?

Truthfully now, would you want to see your betting shop a hundred times larger? Do you think that would benefit anybody?

Wasteground would be better for Manchester...

Hey Emma- welcome.

I've got to say that your first post is a sweeping generalisation. Whilst I can see how you arrived at your opinion, I don't agree with you. I also think your comparing of an image of a back street bookmakers with a 'super-casino' unrealistic as well.

Having been to Vegas- which is awesome and visited casino's in other cities, such as the one in Melbourne, I'd say it's a great way to transform an unused bit of "wasteland". I also think that the minority of people who have a gambling addiction, shouldn't be allowed to stop ordinary people from enjoying a great facility such as the one proposed in Eastlands. That would be like a bill for the prohibition of alcohol....

You would hope that the govt.s have learned from passed mistakes of allowing criminal elements to control gambling activity and with the prospect of more hotel and conference space an ice rink and the increased possibility of a metrolink expansion to the East with this project I certainly support it.

With regards to Blackpool, I feel that it may be dangerous for the town to pin all of it's hopes of future regeneration- which it desperately needs- on a single project such as this and if it does attract the bookies crowd that Emma referred to then this would surely be compounding a problem that Blackpool is afflicted with.

I feel that Manchester and other similar sized cities should have facilites such as the Eastlands proposal, that will act as an additional asset to the city, rather than turning an entire towns focus onto such a project like Blackpool appears to desire.

You're right, it was a sweeping generalisation, but I do feel that a 'supercasino' is unneeded in Manchester. I think it would be a step in the wrong direction, away from a economically and culturally vibrant city, towards a more tourist and leisure oriented city.

Prohibition of alcohol? Now there's an idea...how about banning loud music as well?

On booze you are SO wrong- loud music-symptomatic of the "no respect" "me me me" culture. I have lived in Hulme in the days of the Crescents, and in the turn of the century- there are more arrogant selfish shits in the area now than at any previous time- every car has to have dance shit at full volume. Why are domestic and car stereos manufactured to produce such an output? there is no NEED for it. If i were one of these tossers i would feel EMBARRESSEED to play such crap at such a high volume, kind of admitting your a moron with no appreciation of music, but today its all about "image"- but who are you trying to impress???

I have been drinking this lunchtime!

Has nobody heard of irony?

...but I did see a lad on the bus yesterday with speakers hung round neck. I would have gotten off and waited for a later bus, if I wasn't so sure that it too would have some similarly annoying **** doing the same thing.

Maybe we should just ban speakers?

Whoa! No need to go that far!

Banning music should suffice.

The Pure Magic Bar

Manchester is set to have its very own magic bar, The Pure Magic Bar, which will open in June 2006. Run by magicians who perform magic behind the bar whilst serving drinks, customers will be able to enjoy the magic and will also have the opportunity to learn simple bar tricks themselves - the whole bar offering an "all magic" experience.

For more info take a look at:

Lammars Review (Foo Foo lives on!)

Ask any 20-something in Manchester these days to tell you about Lammar and they’ll probably tell you he’s the crooner from Fame Academy with a voice higher than their little sister’s. But ask anyone who was anyone in Manchester during the seventies and eighties and they’ll tell you about the late, great Foo Foo Lammar, a legend in the club scene of Manchester in years gone by. Despite being the son of a tough East Manchester rag-and-bone man, Foo Foo (or Frank Pearson to his friends) became first a drag artist, then nightclub owner, charity fundraiser and hero to many.

It is, of course, this Lammar that has inspired the naming of the restaurant/bar on Hilton Street in Piccadilly. Lammars is like an oasis in the desert of industrial era buildings. As you enter there’s something about it that feels like a pimp-palace, namely the red upholstery and 70’s style wallpaper in the bar.

And a couple of pics:

i presume no-one has seen the ancoats urban village thread recently, due to lack of vocal response!

heres a link to the realtime virtual walkabout (this was made for people like you guys.)
apologies for the lack of buildings details, the databases are'nt linked properly yet.

http://212.69.201.41/ancoatsv2/home.php

this is special cos its not properly linked to the official auv website yet.

Bammy what do you reckon?

its done using turn tool, it down loads in 30 secs, i mere 3 meg, reduced from a massive Studio max and texture files in excess of 500 megs.

PS is it just me, or is SSC really slow. plus at work lately everytime I change thread it get checked by my companies anti virus scanning software which takes upto 1 minute.
whats the score, whats changed?

its a plug in issue, they have used some obscure compression and then restricted its access in some way as I cant even get the plug-in.... must be a reason why they did that. Shame.

The walkaround worked for me, you need to install an ActiveX control but it's really not worth it
