Maybe it's a stupid question, but if I'd buy a house there, it would be important to me: Are there any facilities planned to satisfy the basic needs of the people living there, like a supermarket, etc.
I wouldn't want to drive every time half a hour to buy some bread for breakfast!!!
Maybe because of that they need these huge highways at the trunk of the palm...

I love the images, amazing project.

But, I am curious, where is the retail and entrateinment. Is that going to be in the hotels only? What about if I would want to go buy milk for breakfast or for example or want go shopping or go for a drinks and dinner.

Any one has that info?

And......

The Canal Cove pool area looks as if it has alot of space for landscaping, s
ome dates and coconut trees will really bring out this area, and also maybe
some gazebos and waterfeatures as if the beach wasnt enough though lol

i wonder if anybody could possibly take some pictures of, or give any information on how the Marine life is doing now? Would be interresting to see how the palm has effected the local eco system, whether for the better or for the worst.

thanks

I have to present this update:

Russian Government too has given the nod to the 250-hectare Federation Island that will be built in the shape of Russia, stretching from a man-made Kaliningrad all the way to a scale model of the disputed Kuril Islands. It is the brain of the Dutch architect Erick van Egeraat to create a Russia-shaped luxury island in the Black Sea near Sochi by 2014, when the city hosts the Winter Olympics. It derives its name from the planned shape of the coastline, which will resemble Russia's boundaries. If all goes well as planned then the Federation Island will cost an estimated 155 billion rubles (over $6 billion), will have two marinas, religious centers, roads, parkland and artificial rivers, mimicking Russia's major rivers. Having apartments and villas to house 25,000, it is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. However the acting economics minister, German Gref quoted its cost at 250 billion rubles (about $10 billion). Well they certainly have made enough money from all the oil business!

I think it will be good if they start making an artificial reef project (or natural reef project because Dubai got money). The Palm Islands will be a good home for any reef-type of fish due to slow movement of water. Plus, it will attract more tourists and home buyers.

Good point, small marine life is already attracted to the shallow waters of the Palm islands as is young individuals of larger species.

Thanks for the updates Imre. Looks great. A lot of landscaping (greenery etc) to go though. The Palm islands will keep developing long after the projects are"finished".

This project has turned into a bloody mess. It looks terrible and reflects in NO way the original design. Obiously the developer got hungry for more cash and chopped all the original blocks into 4.

BAH!! you don't f**k with the environment this much, it will come back to bight you.

Maybe I should take economics but it surprises me there are enough people in the world to fill everything Dubai is building these days. I also need to figure out how to make enough money to live lavishly in Dubai as well.
