It isn't a monster at this time.

It will become a monster at the time when it's at 500 metres or so.

7WT is even thicker and taller at this time.

Are we gonna be having any steel work going up around the core or is that how thin it will be all the way up?

Dubai will have a building topping out soon that is the same height as Ryugyong Hotel. Burj Dubai will be more than twice that height.

Altin you take excellent photo's. Thanks for getting the close up of the set-back. They haven't been installing glass yet because they haven't selected a contractor yet. I believe they were going with stainless steel, but the cost of stainless steel has gone through the roof, so I don't know what they plan to use.

No, there wont be any steelwork.
However, according to CULWULLA's estimate the tower is over 300ft wide, hardly what I would describe as thin. It's just difficult to get an idea of how wide it is, there's not much around it to give it scale.

I think it will take much longer until we see any glass on this, unlike SWFC.

The only simularity to that hotel in HK the Burj has is that it is 3 pronged. Otherwise, the look is completely different. The NK hotel was built so badly, that its currently crumbling to pieces; this POS will collapse sooner or later (like the govt. over there).
Take a look at the pics of the grounds around the Ryugyong hotel, there are HUGE chunks of concrete everywhere, and that is not left overs from the concrete workers!
How would you like to be up at the top in that building, right where the revolving restaraunts were going to be and finding that there are chunks falling from the ceiling? There were also rumours that the elevator shafts are badly crooked, from the shoddy worksmanship. I dont even think that thing could be repaired with all the money in the world and the best engineers on the job.

The Burj is being built with some of the most dense, highest quality concrete around, and this is being built to last..

Normally I wouldnt judge a building before its done, but in this case I would have to say that the Burj looks a lot better than the Ryugyong because the Burj is not falling apart! Take another look at the pic of the Ryugyong if you are in doubt... just being around that NK structure is very dangerous as it can come down at any time!

There is beauty in using quality engineering and materials, and the Burj doesnt have to even be done to see that.

CREEPY!
Thanks for the information and pictures of the Ryugyong, Bikes. A truly horrific structure that should have been an icon for that city.

What you are looking at is the entire core, with floorplates included on the lower floors as you can see. As it gets higher, it tapers until eventually only the central core (which is the part that sticks up out of the middle) is left. It starts getting pretty narrow after the obs deck. 154 floors are to be built out of reinforced concrete and a steel structure will be built on top of that.. which is where I believe they will use the opportunity to build MORE than just 6 floors to top out at the 160th floor.. Thats the point I think they may add another 30 to 40 floors that have very small floorplates.. my guess is those floors would probably only be serviced by 2 high speed lifts, and 1 freight lift..

i am too excyted

i even count the days when this tower will be finished.I am trying to imagine how it would be to stand in front of it and look up.And even how it will be to stand on the observatory platform.I think this tower will beat them all for a long time. And i dont believe the rumors that the "al burj" can break the mark of 1000m or (3278,7feet).

I especially love the really exclusive design of this building and its shape. When all the projects in dubai will be finished, dubai will look like a city in a science fiction movie.

That depends how tall and how many floors the tower will be/have.

Despite what many people claim to have this as definitive, 160 Floors and 705 meters are not finalized to be the top of the tower and since those number were presented, the official design has been changed a couple of times, clearly showing increase on both height and floor count.
