thanks for article krazy! so lev50 has been reached!
the article mentions concrete pumped to 600m, seems to be approx height of roof. also the 124th floor is about 470m? up. thats going to be an amAzing view. 500m straight down and looking up 300m to spire above. Im sure it will be highest ob deck in world? the 10 levl observation crown atop SWFC is approx 450-480m high. The only thing i can think of that will be close to 500m ob deck will be the Solar Tower scheduled to start 2007 in outback NSW,Australia. It was to be 1000m but now will rise 500m and have a observvation deck which will encircle the towers rim . A lift attached to a track will rise up the chimney with views as far as you can see. nothing like Dubai but mostly sheep paddocks.lol
For those who want to keep tabs on Burj Dubais height. its basically 3.8m per floor. thus lev50 x 3.8m= 190m. there abouts.
the article says BurjD rises a floor eveyr 4days, thus approx 170 days left for 2006 or 42 more floors to add so lev92 by NYE? or 350m!
thus milestones-
lev40=152m/500ft (became a skyscraper)
lev50=190m-June 20/06 Solistice.
lev60=228m
lev70=266m
lev80=304m or 1000ft!
lev92=350m -NYE 2007.(will be highest bldg in Dubai ,or as high as Emerates tower spire).
lev100=380m
lev110=418m
lev120=456m
lev130=494m
lev134=509m (becomes tallest bldg in world surpassing taipei101)- june 2007?
lev140=532m
lev146=555m-(becomes tallest free standing structure surpassing 553m CN Tower)
lev150=570m
lev160=608m (2000ft) -oct 2007?
200m spire is added to becomes tallest man-made structure surpassing 628m /KVLY mast in Blanchard,USA.

^yeah, that's disappointing. would've liked roof height to be much higher... maybe as high as 720m as originally stated somewhere.

The concrete wasn't expected to go past 600 right from the beggining. Its not possible to pump conrete that high. But weren't they gonna have floors past the concrete section of the building?

You guys sure, there will be no habitable space within the steel frame above the concrete?

I would of liked the concrete structure to go as high as 650 meters and the steel structure another 200 meters for a total of 850 meters.

The observation deck in my opinion is a disappointment, If your going for the world's tallest structure you might as well go for the world's highest observation deck as well.
SWFC at the moment being appears to have a higher observation deck considering its a structure around 300 meters shorter than the Burj Dubai.

Alas it appears a spire cheater, but hey spires also exist in such great buildings as the chrysler and ESB.

I think Burj Dubai will become Taller than 610m without Spire. Emaar have never said the official Height, so i don't believe the Article!!

the concrete is 575m, what r u all talking about, we knew that for ages, but there will be additional floors added with a steel structure plus the spire in the end.

who said it is 608m roof anyway..

this article does, once again not proof anything.

anyway.

so Level 50 is the first landmark for emaar.

Hey guys in today’s Gulf News I found something interesting that I didn’t know before. It said that the tip of Burj Dubai once completed would be seen by a person standing 95kms away. Then I remembered I once had to look up a formula for distance of human eyesight, keeping in mind the curvature of the earth. I tried to put the two together but I failed horribly; was never good at math. I ‘m sure some genius here can figure it out using the equation on thiswebsite. You just have to work the problem the other way around to find the height of Burj Dubai.

Quote:
Burj Dubai takes shape

Reaching for the sky

Current level: 50

Completed 25% of 200 habitable floors

Height: A secret, more than 750 metres

The tip of the spire can be seen by a person 95 km away

Build-up area: 5 million sq.ft

Distance it can be viewed 95 kilometer = 95,000 meter

Earth’s radius 3,963 mile = 6,377,830.272 meter
