but, honestly, Kuwaits livery is boring...they should make it more "Lively"
the livery has been used ever since the foundation in Feb '53, or, at least the 60's i believ

Kuwait Airways to buy 34 planes to replace ageing fleet
Published Date: February 14, 2007
By Nawara Fattahova KUWAIT: National carrier Kuwait Airways said yesterday it expects to receive offers within the next two weeks from the world's giant aircraft manufacturers for up to 34 new planes. "We have decided to buy between 30-34 aircraft of different sizes. We expect to receive offers from Airbus and Boeing companies within two weeks," Chairman and Managing Director Sheikh Talal Mubarak Al-Sabah told a press conference. The deal, expected to amount to several billion dollars, is to replace the existing ageing fleet of 15 Airbus and two Boeing aircraft that have been in service for the state-owned carrier since 1992. "After that we will open talks with the two manufacturers to select the best offer and then place the necessary orders. We expect negotiations to be completed in May," Sheikh Talal said. "Initially we may have to lease planes for five or seven years, till our ordered planes are manufactured and delivered. These aircraft will cover all the requirements of the KAC over the next 10 years," he said. He said the Cabinet decided in October to modernise the carrier's fleet. The airline is also looking to sell its fleet and use leased planes for the next five to seven years until the ordered aircraft become available, he said. Kuwait Airways has recently faced some technical snags on some of their ageing aircrafts, provoking criticism against the corporation. "What do the newspapers benefit from publishing all these minor malfunctions faced by the KAC? These incidents happen with all international airlines, but only Kuwait Airway's snags are reported. My friend, who arrived a couple of days ago, had to go through an eight-hour delay, although he was flying on one of the best international airlines. None of the newspapers even reported it, just because it's not our national flag carrier. This kind of news also affect the rates and deals with insurance companies," rued Sheikh Talal. On January 29, 2007, an aircraft flying to Dubai faced technical snags before landing at Dubai International Airport. The dailies mentioned it was hovering above the UAE skies for about four hours. This wasn't true, said the captain of the flight who attended the press conference and explained what actually happened on that flight. "The total time hovering above Ras Al-Khaimah airport was exactly one hour and 24 minutes as we faced a problem with the front wheels during the landing as the hatch malfunctioned. Then the rear wheels also malfunctioned. We tried to fix the problem while hovering above, but didn't succeed. Then after discussing the issue with KAC technicians in Dubai, we landed at Ras Al-Khaimah Airport instead, as the air traffic there is far lesser," clarified Captain Najeeb Al-Kandari. According to Sheikh Talal and the captain, this problem wasn't caused by lack of maintenance. These are technical malfunctions, which happen to any and all airlines in the world, they insisted. Kuwait Airways has been facing financial difficulties since most of its fleet was destroyed during Iraq's seven-month occupation from August 1990. It has spent 15 of the past 16 years in the red and accumulated losses to the tune of $1.8bn in the 11 years to 2003/2004. Losses are covered by the state. Sheikh Talal however said that during the first nine months of the current fiscal year which began April 1, the carrier cut its projected deficit of KD 28.5m to KD11.9m. He said that the only way to make the carrier profitable is through transferring it into a company that operates on commercial basis, a proposal that has been strongly opposed by the outspoken parliament. MPs fear that such a measure would result in sacking several thousand Kuwaiti employees, some of whom constitute a liability on the carrier because of their large number and high pay. Kuwait has opened up its aviation sector and the first low-cost private airline, Al-Jazeera, began operation in October 2005. Two more private airlines are under establishment. Overhauling and expanding Kuwait Airways' fleet started in the year 2000. In 2005 a committee to prepare a detailed study of renewing the fleet was founded. "The committee work took longer than we expected and in October 2006, the resolution supporting the KAC was issued. This resolution will provide governmental support for the airline to renew its fleet," Sheikh Talal added. The plan to transform the KAC from a corporation to a company started in 2004, after a new resolution was issued. This law paved the way in getting licences approved for operating private airlines. "The new companies brought competition to the local market, and this of course affected KAC. We are sure that if the KAC's status was changed from a corporation to that of a company, its performance will be much better in all fields," he said (With agency inputs) NOW THEY JUST NEED TO MAKE THE ORDER AND PRIVATIZE THE AIRLINE

Kuwait Leasing Company Finalizes Orders For 18 Boeing Planes
SEATTLE -- ALAFCO Aviation Lease and Finance Co. of Kuwait signed orders Monday for 12 Boeing 787-8s and six 737-800s, the first 787 order from a Middle East carrier to be finalized, the Boeing Co. announced. The 18 planes carry a total list of $2.26 billion, according to a Boeing statement, although airlines typically negotiate substantial discounts. Six of the 787s were previously listed without the name of the buyer on the manufacturer's Web site, and the rest will be posted to the Web site this month, Boeing said. In November 2005 ALAFCO signed orders for 12 Airbus A350s, making it the first leasing company to place an order for the European manufacturer's answer to the Boeing 787, but that plane is five years behind the Boeing model in development. In November 2006 ALAFCO announced orders for six Airbus A320s, which compete with the Boeing 737. ALAFCO became a publicly traded company in October and has airplanes on lease with nine carriers.
