Terminal C to open Nov. 28

Airport to close at 10 p.m. the night before for preparations
Han Ximin
[email protected]
TERMINALS A and B and Hall D, for international flights, at Shenzhen International Airport will close at 10 p.m. Nov. 27 to allow final preparations for the opening of the airport’s highly anticipated Terminal C at 6 a.m. the next day, airport authorities announced yesterday.
The new terminal will be double the size of terminals A and B and Hall D combined. As many as 83,000 passengers are expected on its first day of operation. Terminal C has 450,000 square meters of floor space, 62 boarding gates and the ability to accommodate any type of plane in the world.
“Passengers need to arrive at the terminal two hours in advance and boarding service could close 45 minutes before departure,” Chen Fanhua, general manager of Shenzhen Airport Shareholding Co., reminded travelers at a news conference yesterday.
Huang Min, leader of Shenzhen’s transportation commission, expressed regret that Metro Line 11, the future airport express line, couldn’t be finished in time for the opening of the new terminal.
Metro riders who take the Luobao Line to the airport will need to take free shuttle buses to the terminal’s General Transportation Center after they get off the Metro at Airport East Station. The shuttle trip takes about 30 minutes, airport authorities said.
“We are working with the airport group on the details of the shuttle bus service, including routes, departure intervals and transportation capability,” Huang said.
An average of 18,177 people take the Metro to or from the airport each day, accounting for nearly 22 percent of people using the airport daily.
Huang reviewed several transportation options to and from the new terminal.
Drivers can take Airport South Road via the Hezhou Flyover on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway. Additionally, the soon-to-open Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway and the under-planning Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor will link with the new terminal in the future.
Ten express buses will service the new terminal, which also will be on 16 other local bus routes, including M371, E16 and E21.
The airport will also open 10 bus routes to Hong Kong, Macao, Huizhou, Zhongshan and Dongguan, sending off 160 buses a day. Passengers who come from Hong Kong or Macao by ferry also will be offered free shuttles to the new terminal.
“We will also open check-in counters at Shenzhen North Railway Station after the Xiamen-Shenzhen high-speed rail line opens, to attract passengers,” Huang said.
Passengers taking private cars to the airport accounted for 33 percent of the average daily total of 27,556 passengers a day. The new terminal’s transportation center will have 4,700 parking spaces.
The new terminal’s Wi-Fi system will be able to handle simultaneous use by up to 3,000 people.
Residents can call 2345-6789 to inquire about flight changes and can log onto http://nt.szairport.com to learn more about the new terminal. The website is only in Chinese.
The airport opened in 1991 and now offers 141 flights linking 103 cities around the world.
Passenger turnover so far in 2013 had reached 24 million by the end of September, and is expected to exceed 30 million this year.
Passenger and cargo turnover will reach 45 million people and 2 million tons a year, respectively, by 2035, according to the airport’s long-term plan.

Sh*t! I was hopeing to departure and arrive already at the new terminal when I am going to Bangkok over the weekend from Nov 22-24!
At least I can enjoy the most smoke-free smoking lounge in an airport another time. Any of you seen it before? http://youtu.be/cLj-Om-sX28

This is the most stunning building worldwide in my opinion. A fitting gateway for Shenzhen. When you land you will fully understand.. it's truly the city of the future!

I assume that Metro Line 11 will link directly to the new terminal ? In other words you just walk off the train straight into the building?

Will the proposed route of Line 11 will it take it to the other side of airport to prehaps link up with an additional terminal if one is built in the future?

If they need to expand then they would use the space opposite the new termainal. Maybe building an APM between them might be easier and cheaper?

metro line 11 Airport Station for T3 is directly under the Ground Transport Centre

and metro line 11 Airport North Station for T4 is under construction

Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Rail has confirmed that there would be stations for T4 and T3 as well. may be opened in 2018 i presume

Is the construction of T4 imminent? That is to say are they plans to build it in the near future?

Ferries near airport could save travelers’ time
11 November 2013
Shenzhen Daily

MAINLAND travelers who take ferries to Hong Kong’s airport could save more than 10 minutes of travel time after Shenzhen International Airport’s new terminal opens later this month, airport authorities said.

It should take about five minutes to make the 2-kilometer trip from the terminal’s General Traffic Center to Fuyong Port, which operates eight ferry services with Hong Kong and 16 services with Macao. The ferry ride from Fuyong to Hong Kong’s airport takes about 40 minutes, Shenzhen airport authorities said Saturday.

International passengers coming to Shenzhen’s airport via ferry service will be able to check in for flights departing from Shenzhen to inland cities upon arriving at Fuyong Port.

Fuyong Port will intensify ferry services between Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao after the new terminal opens.

Shenzhen International Airport invited 100 residents Saturday to visit the new Terminal C and provide opinions for improvement ahead of its Nov. 28 opening. The new terminal will be able to handle 45 million passengers a year.

Another open house for the terminal will be held between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Interested residents can register by calling the Daily Sunshine at 8351-5151 or 40061-31110. They can also use the Daily Sunshine’s QQ account, QQ4006131110, or email copies of their ID or passport along with their phone number, name and an electronic photo to [email protected].
