Shenzhen T3 Opening day

Hi everybody! So I had the chance of leaving Shenzhen from the old terminal on the 27th of november to head to Shanghai, then I came back the next day on the opening day of the new terminal. So I took some photos that you can see by clicking on this link.

I know this has been said many times in this thread but I'll say it once again. This must be the most architecturally and aesthetically impressive airport terminal in the world today. At least I can't think of anything better. Simply amazing.

As expected, Western media isn't as big a fan and has churned out some nonsensical smears as usual:

Absolutely incredible symbol for Shenzhen. The future is here. And the future is now!

I think in about 50-100 years, people will look at some of the large public works projects in China as good examples of early 21st century architecture. At least to me, a lot of the new buildings going up in China at the moment are similar aesthetically with a lot of solid single colours, organic curves, and wide open structures where you can see one side to the other(this is directed at the HSR stations in particular), though I have an untrained eye in that respect.

Washington Times is a hardline right-wing American redneck shitpaper. Pretty much a laughing material by anyone who's got at least a fraction of human brain. The Independent? What is that anyway?

What about FT, The Economist, WSJ? I would be surprised if they would write something like that given the fiasco of anti-HSR tirade a couple of years back.

My biggest concern though is if they will keep this building... eh... clean. White color and countless details will need some serious maintenance.

The average westerner believes what they read or see on TV, any and all evidence to the contrary is either ignored by most people or attacked by others. Not all people of course but f you are expecting the achievements of the Chinese in terms of construction to be treated on their merits I'm afraid you'll be waiting for a long time.

I forgot to add that the same could be said for the Middle East, and the rest of Asia including the likes of India and Indonesia. I really feel that it's going to take a generation at least and a change in the way people access info on the outside from traditional media and broadcast TV to internet based forums and global web based resources that cater to global audiences rather than the guy down the road. Filming Hollywood films in and around such places helps change perception as well due to their global reach. As the Chinese box office expands and Hollywood attempts a greater penetration of the local market here through joint ventures you can expect their local partners to exert control over the portrayal of China in films made in China with Chinese capital.
