China seems to like lattice work lately. First the Bird's Nest, then the roof of Beijing New airport, then the web-like design on CCTV, and now this. Simple shape and yet the surface shows a lot of details and elegance.

I like it very much, it's beautiful. The architect made a large scale project without sacrificing details.

Five airports to be exact, GZ, SZ, HK, Macau and Zhuhai.

The subway system will extend to the airport in the near future, and an exclusive high speed rail will be build to connect with HKIA as well.

Shenzhen Baoan International Airport

@ SilentStrike

Yup.

It was mentioned in a press release last year that the expansion of the Shenzhen-Bao'an International Airport involved a bit of reclamation.

Shenzhen Airport Expanding Facilities

SHENZHEN, June 24, SinoCast -- Shenzhen Baoan International Airport will get rid of disadvantages resulting from insufficient facilities after its second runway comes into operation in two and a half years as well as the progress in the expansion project of its terminal zone and the operation of its Terminal Three (T3).

The airport, based in south China, dealt with more than 600,000 tons of cargo and mails and served 24.48 million passengers last year. Shenzhen Airport Co., Ltd. (SZSE: 000089) hopes that its business would go up further, disclosed Wang Yang, chairman of the airport operator.

According to the plan, the airport will operate 205,000 flights this year with a passenger throughput of 25.20 million passengers and a cargo throughput of 700,000 tons. In the first five months of 2010, it served more than 11 million passengers and handled 310,000 tons of cargo and mails.

Earlier this year, UPS, one of the world's four largest express delivery companies, stated the operation of its new intra-Asia hub at Shenzhen Airport, according to some Chinese media.

The new hub, with an estimated cost of USD 180 million, will be capable of sorting 18,000 packages an hour. With 400 employees, it is expected to provide overnight delivery service between countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
