I vote for Shenzhen: new airport will run at full strength in 2014. Just look at Kunming's figure in 2013 with new airport, +23.8%.

Is this an airport or a modern work of art?

Awesome terminal! It makes me wonder, how did all the planes fit in the old terminal?

I have been flying to Shenzhen since 2008, they were building the airport the entire time, did nobody think to change the subway over to the new terminal? This is similar to Wuhan's airport, beautiful design, but they forgot to build the road there, you have to take the outer ring for 1 1/2 hours to get to Wuhan.

Learn from HKG, Get it right the first time!!!!!
Do you remember the computer problems at HKG and many other airports when it first opened?

Heathrow's T5
T5 passengers have suffered two days of cancellations and delays
Passengers caught up in the chaos that blighted the opening of Heathrow's £4.3bn Terminal 5 will take little comfort from the fact that they are not the first to suffer as a result of teething problems at an airport opening.

Denver, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur all experienced well-publicised glitches at their launches.

Perhaps the biggest problems were encountered at America's Denver International Airport, which not only opened a year late in 1995 because of technical faults with the baggage system, its first day was then marred by problems with bay allocation and luggage handling, which led to long queues and lost bags.

A number of Asian airports also had rocky starts.

I remember Bangkok Suvarnabhumi had it really bad for opening as well.

Doesn't Shenzhen airport have an Airport Express line similar to Hong Kong Airport Express under construction? The Luobao line I would imagine would take forever to get from Luohu or Futian to the airport anyway.

Long lines like these impressively show that there's more to being a "Good Airport" or even "Best Airport" than impressive architecture:

good airports plan ahead for the expected number of passengers and staff the security control accordingly.

One never sees such lines at Changi or Chek Lap Kok...

Air fares to plunge after festival
14 February 2014
Shenzhen Daily

PLANE ticket prices for Shenzhen flights are expected to drop dramatically this weekend as some airlines will offer discounts of up to 80 percent following Friday’s Lantern Festival, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Shenzhen Airlines staff said the holiday air travel peak has passed but passenger volumes remained higher than normal Thursday. Li Jing with the airline said the off-season for travel will continue until the end of March and many airlines will drop prices by 70 percent to 80 percent in coming weeks.

The price of plane tickets from Shenzhen to Kunming, for example, will drop by 72 percent Monday. Some tickets from Shenzhen to Xiamen will cost just 216 yuan (US$35) after the Lantern Festival, a 73-percent discount.

Beautiful Airport. I flew to and from Shenzhen in the final days of the old airport's operation. What a pity.
