Metro Line 11, which will serve the new airport terminal, is scheduled to open either at the end of the year or in June next year. I've heard some reports say that the line from Futian to the airport will open at the end of this year and the rest of the line from the middle of next year; others that the whole line will open at once in June next year.

For the moment, we have to get a bus to the nearest Metro Line One station.

Usually once the physical infrastructure is complete then they will electricify the line before it goes into trial operation once that happens it takes a month or two to go into service. They will make announcements accordingly on the metro website. Check the website for updates .

Will Metro 11 extend all the way to the border with Dong Guan?

the whole line 11 is under construction, from Bitou (Songgang) to Futian. there is no approved plan yet to extend the line to Dongguan.

Most likely they will extend the Dong Guan Metro southwards to the border. We should expect an annoucement in that regard soon enough.

I haven't seen any official about linking Line 11 to the Dongguan metro system, but it's certainly an idea that's in the air, and it makes a lot of sense for Dongguan to have high-speed access to Bao'an Airport. I'm told that Dongguan is the most populous city on the planet not to have developed its own airport.

Nothing official yet because ShenZhen line 11 would have to be finished first.

The same applies to Dong Guan R2 phase 1 then phase 2 should extend R2 to the border.

My best guess is it will be achieved in stages.

I look at Dong Guan Metro plan reveals the proposed routes extend all the to the borders of GZ, SZ and HG.

Not a coincidence in my opinion.

Your point on DG lack of an airport is a valid one.

There could be a competition between Suzhou and Dongguan though.

Once Shen Zhen Line 11 is completed the missing piece between Dong Guan R2 will be around 20 km.

How far apart are the ends of Su Zhou and Shanghai metros?
