And some of the best skyscrapers ever are boxy, "normal", like Mies' Seagram and Johnson's AT&T. They are perfectly-proportioned, sophisticated, refined in details, buildings in which it's almost impossible to change anything not destroying integrity of whole projects. And they doesn't have to have super-complicated shape. Because three Heron Quays boxes are totally uninspired it doesn't mean that simple skyscraper is bad because is simple. I'd like to see here something highest-quality "normal". |

I know why people like them it is just the words 'normal' and 'wacky' that gets me! They dont make sense unless you live in a North American city or one of its many pretenders.

Heron Tower is 'normal', but of extremely high quality. I wouldn't want 80-88 Bishopsgate to be exactly like Heron, as they are neighbours, but I wouldn't object to something similar to Heron but with a certain extra something that fits this 'fruit basket' apporach the Corporation are after. A little extra 'something' that pushes the architectural boundary.

something 'wacky' design wise in between Heron and Bishopsgate would be good

Renders have been released!
Great Portland Estates submitted their planning application today and subsequently released renders of the soaring 40 storey tower in the heart of the City of London. The architects Allies and Morrison have taken a radical step movement from the traditional skyscraper design and have incorporated three, yes, three spires in their hopefully successful design. This will set the bar higher in the City of London for new skyscraper proposals.

Looks like it has the potential to be a fantastic addition! 3 spires, very interesting indeed. Can't wait for the full render.

Don't worry though. Proper renders and descriptions will be released soon. Just have to be patient.
