Shanghai: World Financial Center, 492m (101 floors) (Part 6)

Shanghai World Financial Center (Part 6)
Link to Shanghai World Financial Center (Part 5) (Part 4) (Part 3) (Part 2) (Part 1)

Height: 492m
Floors: 101
Year (start): 1997
Year (end): 2008
GFA: 377,300 m²
Elevators: 31
Escalators: 33
Costs at completion: $850,000,000
Location: Pudong, Shanghai, China

Two architect firms is involved in the project, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and East China Architectural Design & Research Institute Co. Ltd. The tower contains commercial offices, a shopping centre, a museum and a 6-star hotel. The foundation stone was laid on August 27, 1997, but a fund shortage on the Japanese side caused by Asian financial crisis halted the project, and nothing had since been done to the projected structure. Construction finally resumed on February 13th, 2003. The design of the opening near the top of the tower has changed in mid-October, 2005; from a circular to a rectangular opening. Architect and developer claim that it is cheaper and easier to implement the new design.

So is this expected to be the worlds second tallest building upon completion behind Taipei 101? (Presuming the Burj Dubai doesn't catch up amazingly fast)

I'm pretty sure it will be world's tallest, then it will be knocked down by BD and FT.

Edit: Sorry, I checked and it was a few meters shorter than Taipei 101.

Hmm.... not sure about this cladding. It looks dark in the corner and whitish elsewhere. I hope they don't **** it up with the wrong glass.

It will have the highest roof and highest floor if it beets the BD. It won't be as tall as the spire on the Taipei 101. Mind you, I doubt the Chinese are too happy about being outdone by Taiwan and it wouldn't surprise me if there was some last minute change...

I don't check it. Why they don't make the tower 20 meters higher?

>>>Then they could have the worlds tallest tower --- I think for a year or so.

The cladding appears white because of the sun louvres, clearly these are not needed for the lookalike cladding panels that are covering the 4 concrete corners of the tower. I doubt you will notice this effect much from afar but it will probably become more obvious the closer you get to the tower and the more you have to crane your neck up to see it.
