What happened to the circular opening at the top. The new square opening is much less imposing. Great loss IMO.

It was something to do with the circle could represent Japan's flag etc and they didn't want tensions of any sort so they decided to change it, but i think it still looks amazing

I don't know much about construction but it almost looks as if those steel beams are rusting. Can anybody tell me what is going on up there?

I thought it's because a square's cheaper and easier to construct.

It wouldn't surprise me if China altered the design because of the Japanese flag. I have lived in Japan for 3 years and know the friction that lies between the 2 countries

The construction progess of this tower is extremely fast. It would be taller than Jin Mao in a early time.
