We could get our urb-exing friends to sneak into the planning office and simply "delete" the application.

in the planning application website when you bring up the planning application page, a like at the bottom says 'consultations' and give a list of all the people and organisations who have been consulted on the application.... are they there, i cant check at the moment

Some of the neighbourhood forums are listed but I haven't heard them kicking up a fuss!
Frustratingly the planning website doesn't have the original docs uploaded from the outline planning application. I have a distant memory of some opposition to development on this site at all as it was a green space, but it was dropped because Calthorpe said they would only develop a tiny part of the area around Cannon Hill Park and it would be done carefully. According to Edgbaston Mill's own masterplan this is the site for offices and restaurant NOT foodstore and I think their outline planning permission stipulates the same.

About what? A shitty little Aldi that's badly designed, doesn't fit it with its surroundings, isn't part of the masterplan, isn't in accordance with the previously agreed use and is opposite probably the most famous place in Birmingham?
Nor me. Let it through, and let's also have a petrol station, Select & Save and a kebab shop too.

Bad Taste Calthorpe, strikes again!
Not only do they see fit to blot Edgbaston Galleries further up the road, but now they want to go two-up with this Aldi disaster waiting to happen! If I'm not mistaken there's already two Aldis further up the Bristol Road, one in Selly Oak and a new one in Northfield: they both seem wholly appropriate in those locations; but not here, a show piece area with so much high-end potential. Have Calthorpe lost the plot or what?

The worrying thing is that this has gone through extensive pre-app and the design has been tweeked very significantly from the normal Aldi, which suggests that perhaps the planners are happy with the idea.
I guess that Calthorpe are probably struggling with the borrowing from that expensive brand new empty office block by five ways and that they desperately need some income, and Aldi and Morrison have some cash to spend. All very sad |

do we know this has gone through pre-app? and if so to what extent of pre-app... a single meeting where they were offered advice but none was taken, or where significant changes were made? i wouldnt have expected the back of the building to be facing the road if significant pre-app discussions had taken place and listened to....

You can't object on the basis of the user - they simply represent an A1 supermarket use which I understand is covered under the original outline permission.
The point is this is a terrible design which does not make efficient use of a prominent site (single storey) with a dead frontage all the way along Edgbaston Road. Objections should be on the basis of the design referring to the design policies of the UDP. Even the Aldi at the Maypole looks better than this. |

I understand that the likes of simply food etc have turned down the opportunity. It isn't too long ago that they would have turned down Sainsbury's as being too mainstream, how times change!

Hello,
I wonder if you guys can help me out. I am a resident of the Hemisphere apartments (next to the proposed Aldi) and am wanting to object to the planning application. I haven't received any notification through the post (as we did for the Cricket Ground development) and am aware that the public consultation period is coming to an end next week. Therefore I would appreciate any advice on the best way to get my objections across (ie where/who to send my appeal to) and any guidance as to what you can appeal against and what you can't (and the most effective arguments). Thank you in advance for your help. |

It appears to me to be a garage for police vehicles, presumably to free up the adjacent gymnasium for it's intended purpose?
