Some other development news-
Walmart is looking to build another store in Greenville. More information: http://greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbc...28/1004/NEWS01 Shopping Center project near cemetary on Woodruff Rd. gets initial OK. More information: http://greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbc...09/1004/NEWS01 I have received word from the City of Greenville that the water line work their doing on Spring St. is definitely for the Peacock Hotel and Spa water line movement. I have also learned that Bob Ellis met with the city earlier this week, but did not give a groundbreaking date. However, they said by the impression they got from him, he plans to start real soon. He has another meeting scheduled with the city again next week too. Also, the Shopping Center Group has informed me that Sports Authority at Magnolia Park Town Center is going to be downsized and moved to the spot on the new site plan. Email about Magnolia Park Town Center-Residential portion:
Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding Magnolia Park Town Center. Currently we are in the design phase on this project. There will be a two-story residential unit above retail, and behind that, an eight story residential tower with parking under this tower. Construction on this project is scheduled to begin in mid - late 2007, with a completion estimate in 2008. Pricing on these units has not been determined, as we are still working on the design phase. -Spake Real Estate Last edited by cdude9409; October 27th, 2006 at 02:41 PM. |

A new mixed-use development is being planned for 25 acres of the Flour Daniel headquarters site, just bought by a Charlotte developer. It will most likely be a combination of residential and retail.

I just drove down Verdae Blvd for the first time in 2 months or so. The progress was overwhelming. A huge portion of the area has been stripped of trees and the site is being prepared for construction. Before long, houses will be going up and the city's population will be on the rise...

'Leatherheads' - the movie
George Clooney and Universal Pictures will be setting up shop in downtown Greenville for a major motion picture called, 'Leatherheads.' The story is basically a romantic comedy set in the early days of football in the 1920's. Renee Zellweger is in negotiations to co-star. Various Upstate sites could be used, including a few historic buildings in dowtown Greenville and nearby downtown Anderson. Shooting is expected to begin in February, 2007. Read more here...

I see I had forgotten to post this here.
3M TO EXPAND FILM OPERATIONS AT DONALDSON CENTER For Release – Tuesday, November 21, 2006 Contact: Kevin Landmesser - 864.235.2008 (GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC) The Greenville Area Development Corporation announced today that 3M will expand its film manufacturing operations at the company's Greenville, SC facility. Engineering and design of the $100 Million expansion will begin this year and construction is expected to begin in May 2007. Production is scheduled to begin in 2008. 3M produces a variety of films for customers in a number of markets, including the Industrial, Display and Graphics businesses. The expansion is expected to create approximately 50 jobs. Currently, the site employs approximately 435. The SC Department of Commerce supported the GADC in the recruitment effort. "We are pleased to be part of the Greenville community and to expand our operations in the county," said Walter Zoladz, plant manager, 3M Film Operations in Greenville. "This investment is part of 3M's ongoing commitment to meet the needs of our customers by increasing the production of films that support a number of 3M businesses." "This new investment by 3M will represent the latest in advanced film production technology," said Butch Kirven, Greenville County Council Chairman. "To have one of the top 10 leaders in global innovation continuing to grow here speaks volumes for Greenville." "3M will create new engineering and skilled technician positions to support this highly technical production process," said Jay Rogers, GADC Chairman. "The company has found that it can find a qualified workforce in our region. Further, this project is yet another example of a strong engineering component associated with new manufacturing growth and suggests Greenville is rebounding strongly. Year to date capital investment in the community is more than $300 million roughly doubling the amount invested in 2005, and six weeks still remain before the year ends." 3M is a $21 billion diversified technology headquartered in St. Paul, MN. There is word of a new company bringing 100 new jobs to Greenville. They will be locating along the Southern Connector (I-185), presumeably in or near The Matrix.
Here are a few photos of progress on phase II of RiverPlace - The Terrace is the building shown under construction. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is a shot of the skyline from deep in the West End. (Please excuse the trees in the foreground) You can see the rooftops of the RiverPlace buildings and how little impact the eight story structures have made overall. I love the density though.

![]() Loved this last photo. The skyline looks pretty interesting even through the tree branches. The density looks good, too.

Yes, it is a nice, somewhat "different" view of the skyline. It will become even more dense quite soon, with the addition of two new towers in or very near the early stages of construction. That does not include the addition of several other new mixed-use projects that are on the table and planned. The City is negotiating very intensely with a Miami developer to create a totally new project on the 33-acre site of the current County Square Offices in the West End of downtown. The development is expected to be a "massive."
The United States Endowment for Forestry & Communities Inc. was formed Tuesday and will be based in an office which will be selected in downtown Greenville. Carlton Owen, the new CEO of the endowment had this to say: Quote:

Good pics, Skyliner. I have another skyline shot from the West End district of downtown. Not trees blocking my view, just some lines and poles:

Everyone hold onto your hats and take a seat. This rumor is by far the most awesome yet!
Rolls-Royce is looking at several locations in Southern states for its new global center. South Carolina is one of the states on the list. I have heard that CU-ICAR or Millennium Campus in Greenville would be the most logical choices in this state for them to locate and could give us a lift over the other locations. This is in no way a final deal, but it sure does sound phenomenal! The company does far more than just build luxury cars.
