There are renders of some other proposals for this plot (next to Jin Mao and SWFC) in skyscrapers.cn
This one is the only supertall one though. I'll try to find them again and post here if you want.

ROFLMAO on the Orthanc comparison. I totally agree. I love Shanghai and i don't like this building. Thank g-d it isn't going to be built in Pudong.

Now as far as the other proposals; do we have pictures of the 600m high building? i'd love to see some. And the other two buildings in Pudong i like the one in the night pic, its a much prettier building than the other one with the hollow tip. What's up with that?

The first pic you post was designed by a Hong Kong Architects,Dennis Lau & Ng Chun Man Architects and Engineers (HK) Ltd around 1996,you can find that pic from their official site ,and the Shanghai World Abundant Culture Tower is only a concept plan, and it was designed as a observation tower, not a office tower ....

I knew it was a winning concept plan, so the chances that its been built is rather low. Do you have any more information or renderings of this tower? I have been working blind on chinese pages, a language i can't understand, and from what i saw the first drawning was People's Tower.

That's a really interesting tower, to me it seems perfect for Shanghai. It seems that Shanghai is aiming to have a really futuristic skyline and this will certainly contribute to that. I think this suits Shanghai better than it does New York. The Lord of the Rings comparison is brilliant but a little scary though lol!

Shanghai World Abundant Culture Tower? Is that the offical English name or just a translation of the Chinese name? The English name's terrible.

The completion date for the tower on this site. Whatever it is, is at least 2013. So news on this could take a while.

I remember a thread about that the ground is sinking in Shanghai and that they can't build any more skyscrapers in the city because of that.
Isn't it strange they build another supertall?
Good new anyway (if the city won't sink of course )
