I think SWFC has more class. I like Jin Mao from a distance but I was slightly disappointed with it close up. The cladding is a bit too fussy. I also think the contrast between them (one post-modern and the other modern) is successful. What I don't want to see is an inferior quality tower such as this one dominating both of them. I'm glad to hear it will not be built in Lujiazui.

how can people say it's brilliant (or bad) just by looking at one small (and pretty bad) rendering? ....

I completely agree with you, my favorite part of Shanghai is the complementarity between the SWFC and Jin Mao.
However, I do not think this tower is of lesser quality, it is just as great, with some clean lines, yet not bland enough to be as boring as the Freedom Tower.

Pretty hard to know what to expect from that small picture, but from what I can see, it looks awesome...

Well I actually I think they're ok in terms of contrasting styles of architecture, but SWFC is too big in comparison to Jin Mao. It's just so much taller. Let's just wait and see what they'll look like together. I'll get used to it I guess.

It would be a bit better if they would be a bit further apart, if they wouldn't be right next to each other. But both are great buildings (SWFC & Jin Mao).

I found this in a chinese forum afterall, but my chinese is a bit rusty, so i just took some few information i was able to understand with my bablefish translation!

I have read skyscrapers.cn and I agree with some of the forumers said. Shanghai's empty land beside Jin Mao and SWFC should be used to construct building no less than 600M !! . Lujiazui is the main skyline of Shanghai and those lands are limited. Shanghai should build a mega project that can symbolises Shanghai's glory in the future. We don't want to see the skyline of Lujiazui to be filled with insignificant and non-supertall buildings 10 years down the road . Darn if only a petition can be organised to pressure Shanghainese government to build mega project that can dwarf Burj Dubai.

Ah, nice. Shanghai already looks most impressive and God - who's a woman after all - much prefers this thickness on a building.

This probably is China's greatest lesbian tower. It will take some time to find though.
