Interesting that Newham Council will be lending money to West Ham if they win the bid use the Olympic Stadium http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2...-stadium-spurs

The £95m conversion work will be paid for through a £40m loan from Newham that will be repaid at commercial rates, £35m that already exists within the ODA budget for conversion work and the remainder from the proceeds of selling Upton Park.

Newham is one of the poorest parts of the country, so it's interesting that the council can do this.

Yeah i think Ken Bates said in his programme notes a while back that he wanted to have a whole week with an event every night at Elland Road. Can't see it happening myself.

From today's YEP:

Quote:
Leeds United: Enfant terrible and Dettori could open Elland Road eaterie
Published on Mon Feb 21 2011

CELEBRITY chef Marco Pierre White and diminutive jockey Frankie Dettori have approached Leeds United with the idea of opening a restaurant at its Elland Road ground.

And another, rival celebrity chef, thought to be James Martin, is locked in negotiations with the club as it proceeds with plans to redevelop the ageing stadium.

White and Dettori have identified the first floor of the East Stand as the ideal place for a restaurant.

The theme would be Italian American.

But United, whilst confirming that there has been contact, say that formal talks have yet to take place.

A spokesman for Leeds United said: “They (Marco Pierre White and Frankie Dettori) have expressed an interest but no discussions have taken place at the moment.

“We are, however, in discussions with another major chef, who is a household name, about the East Stand development at Elland Road.”

At first glance, the partnership with Dettori seems an odd one but White, who is 50 in December, is half Italian through his mother, whilst Dettori hails from Milan.

And White has chosen his home-town club for a first attempt to get into the football food market.

It is understood that he toyed with the idea of linking up with a footballer for the project but the possibility of extending the idea to take in other clubs meant he opted instead to go into partnership with someone who crosses football’s tribal barriers.

United, meanwhile, are remaining tight-lipped about the identity of the other celebrity chef. All they will say is: “We think it’s important that we go into partnership with someone who isn’t part of a worldwide chain.”

That would seem to rule out Gordon Ramsey, who has interests in restaurants across several continents, and Jamie Oliver, who is to open an Italian in Dubai later this month and in Sydney, Australia, in July.

The interest from celebrity chefs coincides with United recently announcing plans to press on with the redevelopment of Elland Road, with plans for a hotel, new conference facilities, shops and an increase in capacity from 40,000 to almost 50,000.

Work will start before the end of the season on 22 new executive boxes, six new lounges and a wider concourse on the upper tier of the East Stand.

White, dubbed ‘The Godfather of Modern Cookery’ and the ‘Enfant Terrible’, held three Michelin stars at the age of 33.

Interesting choice of location for celebrity chef restaurants...

At this rate there will be more restaurants at E.R. than at Clarence Dock, I expecting the said restaurant to lean towards the fastfood end rather than the fine dinning experience.

Anybody dined at Howards yet, every review as been more than positive so far, I aim to try it myself next month.

Don't know which edition of the YEP Aviator picked up, the story broke in Saturdays YEP, I guess he must have got confused bless him.

Interesting to know whether this units will be in the small expansion to the existing structure due to be built this summer, or whether it is in relation to the new large extension on the back of the East Stand, timetable TBC?...

Don't know what you mean by " if you say so " the story was printed in Saturdays paper, there's no say so about it. All I'm saying is check your facts Buster.

Oh dear, oh dear

Stoppers, old thing, maybe you should check your facts. The article may well have been printed in Saturday's edition of the paper. But, you see, I don't care because I saw it in the online version of the YEP this morning and the article has today's date on it. You will see that if you read my post of this afternoon. You will also see it if you look at the YEP's website (the link is here in case you have difficulties navigating the internet).

Now about your frequent snarky comments when I post on here, you and I both know you're only doing it to try to gain my attention. But I've told you before, and I'm telling you again, there is no point because I will not go out on a date with you! So, kindly stop pestering me.

I think if I'm not mistaken Aviator on a previous post you described yourself as pedantic, well allow me to use the same mannerism. Clearly the article wasn't from Mondays paper as it was printed in Saturdays YEP, so it wasn't from todays [ yesterdays ] YEP as you stated. Ofcourse if you weren't such a tightwad and actually bought a YEP you would have known that.

Future advice for the low flying Aviator, when you quote something from the YEP website don't give a date, to save embarrasment just post that the YEP are reporting, then you will be on safe secure ground.

I'm all agog that the Aviator flight book as thrown light on another special " word " snarky to go along with such gems as a very warm review, can hardly wait to see what the flightless one comes up with next.

It's a word that I don't recognise and doesn't appear in my dictionary, although it does appear in the urban dictionary. Maybe propellerhead is trying to improve is streetcred, I sense a new image for the self styled aviator coming on.

The same mannersim would require: the use of apostrophes to denote the possessive; full stops instead of commas at the end of sentences or perhaps some semi-colons to link sentences instead; commas between lists of adjectives; spaces between words; all the letters being included in words; grammar.

I'm sure that the YEP never intended for people to be so tight as to read their online version. You should be ashamed, Aviator!

You want pedantry? You can have pedantry.

There was a story about the restaurant in Saturday's YEP: read it online here.

The story was then substantially revised and updated with new information and quotes and republished online on Monday, as posted by Aviator above and as can be seen here.

If you'd paid attention when reading the article on Saturday, the differences between that article and the one Aviator posted should have been self-evident - the completely different headlines are a starting point.

Now, that, my lad, is how to be a pedant. You don't even come close.

Well that was worth the wait, I was sort of waiting to see what you would come up with. I have to say it's a big disappointment. I was expecting great things, after all it's been so long since your last post. All we get though for the first response of year is a limp damp squib of a post.
