Exactly and every comunist country produced their own. Ours was called "Machinegun Model 56" and during our Military classes in high school, we learned to dismantle and assembled, cleen it, take care of it, learned how it works, what are the parts, and of course ... how to shoot with it.

UK couple collects keys for Damac apartment

DUBAI — A newly-wed couple from Britain flew into Dubai on Monday to collect the keys to the Dh2.4 million apartment they won in a promotion held at the Mall of the Emirates during the Dubai Shopping Festival.


Mel and Chris Austen scooped the grand prize of the 'Spend and Win' promotion staged by the mall and private sector developer Damac, which provided the luxury apartment.

The couple were on a visit last year when Chris proposed to Mel, and they decided to return to Dubai for their honeymoon. They were gifted Dh30,000 Mall of the Emirates vouchers from family and friends and they used the vouchers for shopping, which automatically entitled them to participation in the promotion.

Mel and Chris were ecstatic when they received a call informing them that they had won.

During the 45-day festival over 3.3 million people walked through the mall's doors with 279,000 shoppers participating in the promotion.

Peter Riddoch, CEO Damac Properties, said the company had recently announced the winner of brand new jet worth Dh5 million. The winner had booked one of Damac's apartment during the shopping festival.


I just hope they are young enough to be able to wait for there Apartment, it should be ready before they retire: cheers:

When I was in Dubai a couple of weeks ago there were adverts for these Signature Residences all over the place, loads on lamp posts and large notice boards. They're really pushing this one big time - let's hope we see it start to rise soon. I reckon these penthouses will make OH really attractive and no doubt will substantially push up the value of your apartment Hanna.

Hi Morris

I was thinking along the same lines if only they would kick the project off and it takes the next three years so be it,I am not happy about the time delay but what can you do,we have to sit tight and hope it comes good in the end.

New Story from AME today just shows they can still get a contractor !

Al Awtan, Emirates Gardens deal

Damac Properties has chosen the local Al Awtan Contracting to build its Emirates Gardens 1 project at Jumeirah Village South in Dubai. The value of the deal was not disclosed. Construction is due to commence in July 2007 and is scheduled to take 19 months, Damac said. The project has a mix of apartments with retail space on the ground level.



Furthermore, DAMAC Properties recently won three prestigious awards at the CNBC Arabian Property Awards 2006. Property developer bagged the best development award for 'Oceanscape', best architecture award for 'Ocean Heights 2' and the best website award for the company's website - www.damacproperties.com. In December 2006, the company also won the IREF ME award for the best residential development in the UAE.

With the greatest respect (as someone who knows from within, e.g. DEPA Awards), awards are not won in this region of the world as a reflection of a company's success, but a reflection of some other rather less flattering reasons.

Damac have found another new contractor pity they can't find one for Ocean Heights :

Damac picks Intermass
Damac Properties has appointed the Intermass Engineering and Contracting Company as the main contractor for its Lago Vista project at the International Media Production Zone. Lago Vista will cover more than 1m sqft and will comprise 696 studio, 36 one bedroom and 264 two bedroom apartments as well as offering retail outlets at the ground level. The project should be completed by September 2009.
This over one million sq.ft, project will be completed by September 2009.

Intermass is one of the most renowned contractors in the UAE and they have been associated with several dazzling landmarks in the country.
