My girlfriend and i decided to leave this area before the police coming.

When you look at certain Tv broadcast about violence, they show evidences that even prestigious place like Champs Elysees are not sure especially when you are tourist!

Paris is probably not the worst place for violence but it become less sure than before

How many murders does paris and its suburbs see on average in a year? In London it tends to be between 160-180, and hasn't changed much for the past 20 years. So even though people claim that London has got more dangerous, the number of murders are still around a third of new york's (520 murders in nyc last year). How does Paris compare?

In¨Paris metro area (Ile de France) we have about 250 murders per year for 11.6 million inhabitants, this number is stable.
It is rougly 2-2.5 murder per 100,000 inhabitants.

Desepit the stereotype the murder rate is higher in inner Paris than in the suburbs.

Yeah i heard somewhere that inner paris had more murders, i find that strange, although perhaps not suprising considering the density and population of inner paris.

250 murders for 11.6 million metro area is quite low. Im not sure what the rate is for the London metro, (the 160-180 murders happen within the boundaries of Greater London) but i'm guessing it is similar to Paris's.

Yes except that for the suburb district of Seine-Saint-Denis they is approximately 78 murders for 1.5 million inhabitants. And if you take just the urban area and not the metropolitan area that must make I imagine approximately 230-240 murders for 10.4 million inhabitants.
