I gave it a 7,
ok, maybe I should've voted 8, too late now But definetely not higher.
IMO Eureka is a great building, the best in OZ.
I just don't get the podium.
Also, I think it looks funny when viewed from StKilda where I live.
But it's a beauty from Flinders St.
Overall it's a 10 among aussie skyscrapers, but 7-8 in the world.

Personally, I don't understand all the fawning over this building's architecture. From a distance, with it's horizontal lines, it looks like a giant, oversized ruler. It's more tacky than classy, in my opinion. And that's not even taking the podium into consideration.

I hope this is not the future of high rise residential architecture (at least the exterior; I do like the interior shots).

6/10 on a relative basis.

I realise it's a residential bldg it's just a pity it's height and features can't be appreciated at night. They should have put some neon lights at the top, similar to the Rialto so at night it's height can still be appreciated. I'm sure residents wouldn't object to the very top being lit up. I think there was more thought put into Q1's design for effective lighting which definitely stands out at night. Eureka is a landmark bldg...seems a waste not to show it off at night.

Grr, we've been through this so many times! Contrary to popular opinion, Eureka is still not totally complete - we therefore don't actually know if they will put any subtle lighting on the top.

Good height, looks masculine and bold. The blue glass cladding is quite attractive, but the top does not work for me.

Melbourne is one of my favorite cities and I love what Eureka does for the skyline but I don't like the building itself. The middle portion is fine although I'm not so sure about the white horizontal lines. The horrible 70's base has already been mentioned a few times and it would take a miracle finish for it to actually come off nice. The base is not nearly as important as the top but unfortunately they screwed up here too. I appreciate the symbolism in its design but the execution is flawed. A distracting red splotch is all they could come up with? The gold glass is nice and I dig the way it reflects the light around it but I don't feel gold was the best choice. It just doesn't look right to me.

^ Eurekas design is very symbolic. the Eureka Stockade battle was a very important event in melbournes histry.the colours equate to the history.
blue & white stripped facade = Eureka flag
gold top= gold rush era
red stripe= bloody battle
Eureka Stockade>

Grr yourself... this building has now been 'removed' from the construction thread so in all intents and purposes the external contruction is complete. If there's no lighting system now I doubt there will be one...my point is even if there was going to be one at some point I still profess there seems to have been less thought put into the external lighting as Q1 otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion on 'possible', 'maybe' 'lets wait and see' hypothesis.

Yes, whatever, it's been removed from the construction threads on a forum, therefore the site's in lockdown - wait, construction workers, no food for you - a forum mod said so! The fact remains that the top dozen or more levels are still far from completion internally, and I'm betting that there's a lot more in the top plant levels that has yet to be done. Anyway, sorry if it came off a bit rude before - it's just you might have missed this being discussed countless times in the building's various construction threads over the last few months.

If I were in charge of construction, I'd be making sure that every apartment was ready for residents to move in before I'd worry about putting lights on top.

For OH&S's sake, I reckon the first thing that needs to get done is to get the glass panels installed since it can get very windy upstairs. So if I'm right, the workers on the upper floors would have only been at work for one or two months.

Or if you prefer to live on a concrete floor with no plumbing or electricity, then you can have it your way.

It soars really well and I like the cladding, but I'm not sure about the top.
It seems a bit overdone.

I really like those pictures by Velco and posted here by Grollo. Have to be some of the most spectacular photographs of a skyscraper I've seen. The sun reflecting through the early morning fog looks simply amazing.
