U of R Lab building construction

Not sure if you guys have seen this but I have this live feed set as my homepage. It is an actual streaming webcam of the UofR lab building construction. I watch it more because I miss home than for the beautiful architecture, but it is fun to see how fast the building is going up. Webcam 2 works better than webcam 1 for some reason but they both have good views of the campus

Neat... I didn't know the UofR had camera trained on the building. Thanks. I'll have to check it out during the day. I had been meaning to take pictures of the construction for a while... but I'm too lazy... and I guess having the webcams means I don't have to take pictures after all

I'm not pleased with that at all. There have been sooo many things renamed in Saskatchewan as of late, and that one the one building that myself and many ppl I know have said shouldn't be renamed.

And I will never call it Mosaic Stadium... I will keep calling it Taylor Field. As will most other people.

Blah.

I don't really mind the name change actually. What's in a name anyways? Taylor field will always be taylor field to me anyways. The experience won't be any different.

As with the Brandt Centre, Connexus Centre of the Arts and Ipsco place, the money from the naming rights will help improve the facilities. They should have had to pay more though, only $4Million over 10 years?!

I think it'll take a while to start calling it Mosaic Stadium tho, I'm just starting to finally call the Brandt Centre by it's new name

also, I'll be at "Mosaic Stadium" today for our first home game. GO RIDERS

Yeah, the Brandt Centre got a lot more money than Taylor Field did. Which is odd, considering Taylor Field and the Riders are the provinces prized sports team. They should have got a lot more money.

not to mention the brandt centre only seats 7000 max with the new upgrades, where as Mosaic Stadium seats almost 30,000.. that's a lot more exposure for the company

I just noticed yesterday that the old Souls Harbour building was torn down. That thing was certainly beyond its better years.

Interesting read regarding downtown.

Some exciting quotes.

Quote:
Fahlman is already planning where her next walking tour of downtown Regina -- in a year or two -- will go. She figures there will be "lots more residential" and the new STC bus terminal on the 1700 block of Broad Street will be an obvious destination.
More resedential! Hopefully some tall resedential buildings. That would be nice!

This also confirms that STC is still going ahead with their plans.

Quote:
A block away, Olson's condo conversion is taking place inside the two-storey SUMA Building at 1819 Cornwall St. Other second- and third-storey spaces above downtown stores are getting the same treatment.
I can't think of which building that is? I think it's great that lofts are going in downtown. But I would like to see some more strictly resednetial buildings. Or buildings whose main focus are resedential.

Quote:
he nonprofit ArtsAction Inc. is trying to redevelop not one, but two, historic downtown buildings: the old Leader-Post building at 1853 Hamilton St. and the downtown Legion branch (1820 Cornwall St.) into a performance/dance/theatre/music centre. There are rumours of even more projects.
I can't think of the old Leaderpost building? Still, I like any sort of development!

Quote:
But all in all, downtown Regina's chief promoter says, "It's an absolutely wonderful time."
That's positive!

Big developments that will ultimately add nearly 90,000 people to Regina's population are being contemplated in southeast and southwest Regina.

Yeah, I read that in the paper too. Not sure where we are getting that extra 100,000 people that they are expecting.

In other news, a parkade is in the works for the General Hospital.

Yes... as I read that 90,000... I am wondering where they plan on getting them from... because at the current rate, Saskatchewan has stagnated... and there aren't enough ppl from rural areas that would move...

They really need help in attracting offices back to Regina for that to work... so many moved to Calgary in the last few years.

It's not so much that Regina offices moved to Calgary, moreso that corporations axed their Saskatchewan regional branches.

Anyways, I'm not a huge fan of this subdivision news. I think when we are at 300,000 the focus should really be made on condo developments downtown, evenmoreso than now. Why are we spreading ourself out so far. There are areas throughout the city that could use an injection of life and funds.

Pretty much the same thing... the closed the Regina operations, and moved the stuff Regina does to Calgary, also sometimes Toronto, or other bigger cities.

If Saskatchewan ever wants to get growing again, we need to stop being so socialist and anti-business, and start actually atrracting jobs to the province

And I think its great that they will finally fill in that unused space south of the airport with 4 new subdivisions. More condos downtown would be nicer, but there are already lots of condo units going up downtown, and filling in the southwest will give regina a much nicers squared-look on a map

There really aren't that many condos going up. I can think of two strictly condo buildings. The Hamilton (when did that open up?) and Victoria Place (which isn't even completed....when are they going to start on those ffour more floors?) Of course there are other condos on the top floors of buildings downtown....but it's never advertised.

Plus...a square shape of the city......why didn't we just follow the status quo a bit more. :p

there are quite a few condos downtown Regina compared to 5 or 6 years ago, It's nice to know that the Downtown population is growing

and a 'square shape' is better IMO, because it makes more sense than building further out east or north.. this way we're building closer to downtown

Drove through the university today. The sign is up for the new provincial lab. It's going up right next to the ISM building. No rendering as far as I can tell.
