yes, of course, but one of the nicest things of Barcelona is the mix of architecture of different ages!

The one of the corner is awesome, but the new one is so simple, that is sad they demolish the old one, because the area loss part of it history for nothing

That's what I totally agree with you ! In the case the new building had top quality, I wouldn't mind. The bad thing is that the demolished building had been recently restored, and was home of the Puig group, now located in Torre Puig, in Plaša Europa.

Vall d'Hebron

- The largest Hospital University Campus in Spain will undergo a complete transformation the following years. Born in 1955, the campus has grown up in a complete chaos, and its high performance doesn't relate with the access difficulty and building arrangement, making the mobility quite difficult inside Vall d'Hebron.

- This project aims to organize the complex, removing all traffic inside the campus, and allowing the people to move around the large public gardens that will be created to connect the different buildings in a logical distribution.

-Up to 6 obsolete buildings will be demolished, giving space for the park and future facilities.

- 2 new buildings will be built and merge with the surroundings: First one is the reception hall, connecting the General Hospital and the Maternity, giving a distinctive entrance to the complex. The second building will become a Research Centre, the VHIR.

- 50.000 daily patients use the hospital facilities, making Vall d'Hebron a small city.

- Architects: Jordi Badia (BAAS Arquitectura) and Espinet / Ubach Arquitectes.

- The project will be followed by the restoration of the older buildings in the campus, like the General Hospital or the Maternity building. Future projects also include to coverage of the Ronda de Dalt motorway and a new metro entrance next to the reception hall.

- Budget: 122 M euros.

As I stated in my post, there had been made already two 1980s tasteless upliftings in this building. I don't like mixing modern and old styles, but in this case I'm happy to see they tried their best to hide the old uplifting, making it monotonous and with minimal contrast. This will set an example, since there are hundreds of buildings with ugly upliftings done between 1960s and 1980s, truly ruining the general aesthetic of those.

Casa de la LactÓncia's uplifting, before this refurbishment and complete restoration of the building, looked like this:

All in all, the upliftings or "remuntes" are an architectural thing that may appeal to some people, but many others, like me, are against them, neither old nor modern upliftings. Here there are a couple of "extreme" uplifting cases, with no respect to the history and the old building itself.

It has almost been 6 months since I started making periodic updates and showcase of different projects around the city, and it has been an honour to do so ! More than 50k views already

Any suggestions and comments are always welcome, as well as opinion regarding the projects that I may post (many of them are already controversial in our local forums, so go ahead with your criticism). This would help me a lot, so I can give a better approach of the city projects to you, as well as improve as a forum user.

Thank you very much once again, and keep reading !
