A study concludes that the tram along Av. Diagonal would improve public transport

A report by the UPC’s Centre for Innovation in Transport has determined that the connection of the tram system in Av. Diagonal would improve public transport in the city. The conclusions show that the section between Pl. Francesc MaciÓ and Pl. Gl˛ries would take 15 minutes by tram, halving the time needed by all other public transport options. At the same time, 81% of bus services crossing the road would have reduced waiting times.

Barcelona’s new bus network will have 97 services

The roll-out of the new bus network will culminate in the next eighteen months with the introduction of 12 new mainline services. The new routes mean the definitive bus network offered by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) will include a total of 97 services, 28 of them mainline services, 43 regular services and 26 neighbourhood bus services.

The roll-out of the twelve new mainline services forming part of the new bus network will be carried out in two stages: the first in the autumn of 2017 and the second in the autumn of 2018.

Equipped with high performance buses, the new bus network services stand out for a numbering system which is easier to use, greater efficiency, greater connectivity and greater coverage of certain parts of the city. The definitive network will mean 95% of city residents will have a mainline service within 300 metres of their home.

The square is called "Plaša de les Dones del 36", which means "Square of the women of 36", in honour to the women who had to live the dramatic Spanish Civil War, either in prison or in the front lines of war.

Personally, I'd choose a design that serves as an icon to the site, and retain the historic memory and significance to the square.

Then, I'd choose the middle-right one, for its cool design and meaning.

The metal fence that is currently placed between the street and the square (making it a semi-private space) is not shown on the renders. Has it been decided to make the square public?

(And how do the people living on it feel about that...?)

I saw that fence in Google Street View, and I am also surprised that It was put there in first place. Having the neighbours to decide the winner of this competition, couldn't the City Council hear them and remove the fence as well ?

As you may already guess, the fence is quite polemic, meaning most of the neighbours quite dislike it. It doesn't help either in the historic context and significance of the square.

All this isn't mentioned in the different articles refering to this contest, so I guess it's not in City Council's plans at the moment, or the changes may be applied sepparately in the near future. Who knows, unfortunately I am not a neighbour from that area, so I have zero knowledge in that matter

The new Mercat de Sant Antoni opens in April 2018

The remodelling of the Mercat de Sant Antoni is in its final stages. The market is set to open in April 2018 when the traffic calming work in the surrounding area is completed, including curbless paving in C/ Comte Borrell and C/ Tamarit and the transformation of the junction into a square of 2.000 square metres. Finally, as a result of joint work done with local retailers, the Sunday market will have four sections of awnings.

Towards a new usage plan to avoid gentrification

I understand, but I think that a statue would be better than a guge picture in a wall..

I agree with you ! The square isn't very big though, so a statue that would stand out would probably fit too much space. I guess a wall can already do that function, as it does in other parts of the city.
