Labin/Albona, Croatia

Labin (Croatian) / Albona (Italian), Istria county, Croatia

Heritage :

The Roman settlement Albona was one of the first croatized Istrian towns in the early Middle Ages. Originally ringed by a wall, now in the quarter called Gorica, the town gradually spread so that in the 16th century a new town wall was erected. The town included the quarter of Dolica and in 1587 the main Town Gate of St. Plor (St. Florus) was built. Outside the fortified city a lounge was constructed, renovated in 1777 as a peristyle with slender columns; it accommodates a collection of stone monuments. In the town itself, with numerous stairways, the praetor's palace with biphoria in the Renaissance style (15th c.), a granary (15th c.), patrician palaces of the Renaissance with inner yards (Scampicchio, 15th c.), or the Baroque type with prominent fronts (Frankovic-Vlacic, Manzin, Negri from the 17th c., and Battiala-Lazzarini - now a museum - from the first half of the 18th c.). - The region around Labin has a multitude of Romanesque churches with written apses. The large parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Marywas originally erected in the Gothic style (14th c.), to be completely refurbished in the 16th century, and there are also numerous small churches of various Gothic typologies with wall paintings (St. Magdalene, St. Matthew in Prodol, Sts. Cosmas and Damian). The house in which the humanist Matija Vlacic (1520-1575) was born has been renovated. The Matija Vlacic monument was made by Mate Cvrljak. The museum has archaeological, ethnographic, cultural and historical collections from Labin and its broader region as well as a gallery.

lol very true, this part of Croatia was under ex-Venice Republic for a long time, and Italians make significant minority in Istria, everything is bilingual there, and i fully respect it - the title of this thread proves it

yeah, the town looks very charming. just wondering if anyone has been there, if so would you be so kind to tell me about the town, is there anything to do there? clubs bars etc... also is that the whole town becasue it looks TINY.

the reason i ask is because i have been told i have a lot of realtives there. would mean i large % of town is related to me? are the people friendly? hwo would they react to a long lost relative from australia?

if anyone here is from labin give me a yell, i would appreciate it.

(and sabunjar... how about a port in labin )

The town is tiny, yeah, especially in the following photo

Only 12.000 ppl living there. Istrians and Primorci are usualy friendly and simple folks, not nearly as spicy and stubborn as Dalmatians

Speaking of a port, especialy some industrial port, that sounds great! I would love to see it here in Rabac :

A tourist complex and campsite in Rabac which is right across Labin on the coast :

oooops

Dalmatians 'stubborn' and 'spicy'. No never, I totally refute that [shaking my fist at the computer screen and throwing the mouse against the bookshelf and cursing Bubach]

Yeah Istrians & Primorci are generally friendly, relaxed and quietly unassuming people. Dalmatians have to beat their chests all the time and never concede in an argument

I think a Crude Oil storage facility in Rabac would be awesome !

Excellent! So in addition to the new oil storage in Rabac, the Rijeka's Oil rafinery might as well move to this location

Say NO to a green Istria! I myself have always preffered brown color over green

p.s. imagine that ancient Roman coloseum in Pula being turned into a nuclear lab. Looking forward for that to happen, seriously!
