My votes go to:

Number 3 - Hong Kong

Number 2 - Strasbourg, France

And the Winner - Buenos Aires

A city I called home and where my son, Paul still lives in Belgrano

ooh! I think Paris is absolutely amazing. It doesn't have many wonderful monuments, but I think the best thing in this city is the atmosphere. I t has something that likes everybody. I don't know how to explain.
Anywya, I don't think Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful city in the world. I prefer Tokio or reikiavik. They're absolutly amazing ,too.

( Sorry about my English...

It depends what you place emphasis on when referring to what makes a city beautiful.
IMO it's character, history and culture....therefore in no particular order -
Rome, Paris, NY.

I am sure Buenos Aires is beautiful
but this looks like a mess.

this could be drastically improved by getting rid of some pavement, antennaes and landscaping with adequate crosswalks. Looks very Bucharest.

"1-New York (the greatest modern creation of mankind) I agree

2-Rome (the greatest ancient creation of mankind ) I agree

3-San Francisco (just amazing....)" To the common man

Rome I could see being a contestant. SF is so ordinary to me don't think it is as beautiful as European cities or most big US cities.

Paris is definitely one of the beauties of the urban world.
So is Rome and Stockholm. I also think Istanbul might be another contender still dying to go.

ok- so Paris obviously is beautiful and Rio I can't judge as I've never been there. But so much is overlooked in New York. The west village: beautiful, Central Park: Beautiful, Architecture: Beautiful (mostly!) so do your research before you are quick to call New York simply imposing and massive. IF YOU ARE GOING TO VISIT NEW YORK CITY, THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL BE ABLE TO COMPREHEND THE BEAUTY IS BY WALKING AROUND AND TAKING IN THE FEEL AND CULTURE OF THE CITY, NOT BY SITTING ON A TOUR BUS THAT GOES THROUGH TIMES SQUARE. VISIT THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT, WEST VILLAGE, HUDSON RIVER PARK, CENTRAL PARK etc.

in my opinion

Chicago, Paris, madrid, Tokyo( i love modern cities) and SF

HK...I love the modern buildings but there is a lot of ugly buildings
Rio and Buenos aires:Is in the same category as HK..there are some breathtaking areas but most part of the city is not that great.
