But I believe beautiful is something different then cosmopolitan, you should start your own thread! Aside from Manhatten skyscrapers, New York is a lot of ugly.
A city like Paris is mostly beauty having old and modern buildings. I'm not counting the banlieues, because they are not officially Paris. However, Paris is a bit dull and boring.

Paris is not boring

And "a lot" of ANY city is ugly, just like vast amount of Amsterdam is ugly and rotten but I still see at as a pleasant place with beautiful areas.

I'm going to have to agree with Paris. I was stricken by its vibrancy and aesthetics when I visited. My next Selection would have to be London, which I also enjoyed immensely...I haven't been to NYC yet, I'm sure it's up there; but for now, my other selection would have to be Chicago.

Pics I took in Chicago with a casio point and shoot:

Virginia Lover, i know quite a few people from US, who would feel ashamed because of you. They really don't like when they visit Europe, some people here think they are just a bunch of narrow minded red-necks.

Anyway...
1st. place: Paris, because of really nice old and modern architecture.
2nd. place: NY, Manhattan is really one of the best cosmopolitan areas i visited (i have not been in Asia jet)
3th place: Barcelona, the most interesting architecture in older part, typical mediterranean city with all good and bad thinks comes with that.
