I would love to see that. It would mean that all the times (6 or 7) that i went to Madrid i was in the wrong places.

Once again, Madrid is a great place, and in terms of architecture, there are few streets in the world more beatifull than the Gran Via with his buildings from the begining of XX century.

But saying that Madrid has great churchs and monuments... it's simply not true, if you compare it with other european cities. I know, the king's palace, the opera and the ministery in the Cibeles are all very beatifull...

Salamanca is not in Madrid's metro area. It's very near Portugal actually. But i agree, the 3 cities are awsome. More than Madrid

ISTANBUL

A cross between Rome, Damascus and San Fransisco, and one of the friendliest cities in the world

Theres a vast amount of cultural change going on, restoration and building, and zeitgeist in spades
:

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=442128

and here:

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=616934&page=2

So here it is, 13 million people (18 million in the CSA), 3000 years in the making.

For urban setpieces, it takes some beating:

In short, its not about how cool looking people are,
or x amount of beautiful people, clubs, bars or art galleries,
but the juxtapositions of the old and new, East and West, conservative and liberal.
Gay bars by ancient teahouses, mini skirts by mosques, headscarves in clubs, you name it
you got it.

I am amazed that Jerusalem isn't included in any mention of the world's most beautiful cities. It is without question, far more beautiful than places like New York and Istanbul and Krakow, which have already been mentioned a few times. And in terms of history, culture and historical/religious significance, it is probably unrivaled by any city in the world. The sunsets in Jerusalem are also something very special. You can see the entire city glow at sunset. It's quite magical.

So, is the little tower in Lisbon that you posted before a great monument?

Aren't these buildings a great monuments?

ahahah

You've showned all your ignorance with that sentence

That "little tower" is the city symboll. Torre de Belém is an unique structure in all the world. Thank god UNESCO knows a litle more than you, they made it World Heritage Monument.

This litle tower is actualy a fort that was built to defend the city from atakes came from the sea. When it was built, it was in the middle of Tejo River, now it's near land.

Torre de Belem was built in the XVI century in the Manuelin style, a sub type of gothic that can only be found in Portugal

Talking about UNESCO remind me that Madrid doesn't have a single Monument classified as UNESCO World Heritage. Thats how monumental Madrid is .

Lisbon has two, Torre de Belém and Mosteiro dos Jerónimos.

dresden is incredibly beautiful, although lots of construction work is still going on to repair what was destroyed in the 40s. I believe they said it would be done in 2015, but that was before the recent economic trouble so i'm not sure what the estimate is now. but had it not been bombarded to hell during ww2, it would certainly rival paris as the most beautiful city in the world.

The government will invest a lot into infrastructure and building during the economic crisis to fuel the economy. So I think Dresden's construction will have advantage from that!
But Dresden has a gorgeous part that is super beautiful. But overall the city is very ugly outside the centre! Lots of communist commie blocks and cold architecture. However Radebeul near Dresden is home to a bunch of Millionairs how build and bought villas on the vineyards. And there is a Rolls Royce representation.

There are so many beautiful cities that have been shown here and so much variety of beauty it is very difficult to rank them. The pics of Istanbul are stunning, I’ll have to visit one day.

Of the cities I have actually visited Paris is the stand out. Roma, Firenze, Venezia, Barcelona, Praha, Edinburgh – the usually suspects are all beautiful (has Edinburgh been mentioned). I also like smaller cities such as Bath and Brugge. A bit of a Eurocentric view, hopefully that will change when I get to visit some more continents. The videos of the towns in Yemen were amazing. But we should probably stick to the larger cities as there are hundreds of beautiful small towns, and thousands of beautiful villages around the world.
