Very tough.

I would have to say
New York City, Stockholm and Paris.
London, Madrid and Munich are also unbelievable.

I also think that Istanbul, Rome, Barcelona, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Prague and Edinboro are gorgeous. I bet Algiers and Havana would be up there had they been maintained.

The world's most beautiful cities tend to have 4 seasons.

I judge cities more by their built environment than by their natural settings.

Of the cities I've lived in or visited, i would say Barcelona, Munich & New York. Cities that i have not been to that imagine might fill out a top ten: Sydney, Hong Kong, Paris, Vancouver and Prague.

I choose the best cities based on their modern architecture (number of highrises, highways, museums, etc) if I wanted nature I´d just go to the mountain or the beach.

My three first spots would go to:

1) NYC

2) Chicago

3) Sydney

I find european cities very unappealing, and to me Paris looks like any other city in Europe.

I don´t see anything special about it, I actually find it quite boring. If I had to choose one european city I would go with London or Barcelona.

But that´s just my point of view.

People talk about Paris as the most beautiful city in the world... yeah, call me crazy, but I think Paris is actually too beautiful. It's like a sickly sweet with too much sugar in it. I still love Paris, I just think that its immense beauty is sometimes a bit over the top, like it's trying too hard to impress. I guess I like my cities more with a bit of ugliness and grime thrown into the mix

Paris is too beautiful ?...we don't know the same Paris.

Yes, Paris is beautiful but it is not the most beautiful city in the world.

These picture are in the inner city and there is far worst and ugliest districts in inner Paris.

I prefer y city with these district that with only the touristic district of the Louvre.

This is also in the inner city

Paris
London (much prettier than New York IMO and most other cities but often overlooked due to the sheer diversity of architecture)
St Petersburg (very underated)

Other than those any other city in Europe would be clasically beautiful, but then does the western world get its ideas of beauty from western (european) art? How do asian, arabian, indian afrtican etc. people think of european beauty?

I am aware we each have our own, unique preferences, but I can't understand why anyone would rate NYC as the most beautiful. Central Park is stunning, but that's not enough. The landscape around NYC is okay, but it's not spectacular. Some of the architecture is absolutely awe-inspiring, but the style is not my cup of tea.

And don't quote me, tell me I'm wrong, and list a thousand parks or buildings in NYC that you think are beautiful, because that'll amount to nothing more than a pile of beans.

It's still an interesting place, nonetheless.

My top 3:

1. Sydney
2. Cape Town
3. San Francisco

Dude, you stole MY list!

IMO, a truly beautiful city is a mix of vibrant urbanity, beautiful architecture, and breathtaking natural surroundings. The perfect storm.

Rio and Hong Kong would be honorable mentions for me.

When I see pics of Paris, and to a lesser extent New York, I'm overwhelmed by GRAY (or shades of gray)....I know there are many exceptions.

...So I was wondering if there are any WEIRDOS, like me, who actually like buildings with rich, contrasting colours.

Not in order

Tokyo - it has a different kind of charm, it's energy is different, it's vibrant, it's futuristic, chaotic but so organized.

Paris - LOVE IT!

London - For me, the most charming city in the world.

Not too far behind: NYC, Montreal, Hong Kong

I completely agree. There's nothing special in europe. Every city looks like another. They are similar, nothing different.

Well, It would be very hard to say which exact city is the most beautiful city in the world! Every city has its own unique setting!
1. AUCKLAND, New Zealand-Surrounded by 3 harbours, 48 volcanic cones, and many regional parks.
2. SYDNEY: Beautiful Harbour and CBD Waterfront
3. SEATTLE and VANCOUVER: I think they are really beautiful because they are seaside and surrounded by mountains!
