Sydney, Rio...

Hong Kong is stunning in pictures, but they also like to wrap highways around their waterfronts, and generally do a lot of details in ugly ways.

The third might be Monaco. Or maybe another Mediterranean hill city.

I'm going to go with Rio, Venice, Paris. Total cliche but they do it for me.

i definitely thinks paris deserves one of the spots for its longevity in status as a "beautiful city", istanbul is my personal favorite, and jerusalem for its religious/historical significance

Top cities for visiting don't necessarily equate to top cities for beauty. Cape Town, lovely to visit, absolutely stunning natural scenary, not so nice city as a whole. A visit to the Cape Flats is enough to show anyone that it doesn't really deserve a mention as the most beautiful city in the world according to many who have lived and visited there that I know. I wouldn't also call Bangkok the most beautiful city in the world and yet it is a stunner for visiting - it really was an eye opener!

By the way cape flats is just a small part of Cape Town and the mayor has announced rejuvenation of that part of the city. There's currently an N2 Gateway projects wich delas with the issue of slums in CT, you owe yourself a visit to this city before you pose your comment.

Cape Town is a beautiful city, that is for sure, but I am just curious as to what makes Cape Town one of the most beautiful cities in the world? Beyond the scenery, I really cannot see anything that stands out and makes me think, "That's a city that deserves to be hailed as beautiful as Paris, London, Hong Kong, New York ect." I guess it truly just must be a city to visit to really understand.

i never really got why ppl r putting sydney along Paris, Prague... sydney isn't any prettier than say NYC in terms of architecture, and in terms of setting, u have cities that beat it... rio has an AMAZING setting...

Paris's center, looks beautiful, and also Prague... Buenos Aires reminded me too much of Paris in the pix i saw... I also don't think that ppl love NYC because of the way the architecture look like... I mean obviously it has its charm, but its more the energy that attract ppl...
rome looks lovely!

I think we first have to have an understanding of what makes the city to be beutiful. Is it buildings only, is it the combination of building and nature or what? May be then we can start judging cities from that point. But I still say Cape Town is one of the world's most beutiful cities.
