Pretty sweet, I cant wait to see how tall each of the buildings will be.

BTW, will the upcoming BRTS go through the CBD? And will they be willing to get a metro or Konkan SkyBus later on down the road?

Also, they should seriously consider extending the Baroda Expwy all the way through Gandhiinagar...doing so is going to require a directional-T interchange at the current end of the expwy, and an extension of said expwy all the way to the airport and beyond. You can use Google Earth to get an idea of the route.

Some sort of expwy (with each carriageway on either side of the riverfront) will also be needed in the CBD.

Infact the Sabarmati River Front project already started around 2004 or 2005. But then recently flood had destroyed the whole construction and that time I was in Ahemdabad. I did see the progress of the Sabarmati but then flood had destroyed the construction so after that I don't how's the progress going on.

Metro Rail for Ahemdabad is confirmed for 2010 not sure if it's confirmed but I've read it somehwere that the Metro Rail for the first phase will start constructing in 2010.

Thanks for the information and the site, Vibs. Any place where we can get more information on the Ahmedabad Metro?

With the way the Government marketed the project at the Gujarat investment convention, I am hoping Narendra Modi will put this on the fast track.

Looking at the plan, it seems Ahmedabad will have more bridges across the Dabarmati than Kolkata does over the Hoogly or New Delhi does over the yamuna!

GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat today has only four fivestar hotels with three in Ahmedabad and one in Vadodara. But expect this number to take a fourfold jump in the next couple of years with MoUs being signed for at least 15 new projects at the recently concluded Vibrant Gujarat summit.

Of the 15, nine projects will be in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, four in Surat and one each in Anjar and Mundra in Kutch. Western Ahmedabad will get a large slice of this juicy pie, with five-star hotels coming up on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway, Panchavati circle and near Ramdevnagar.

Western Hotel Owners' Association of India president Jahangir Cama says, "Given the spurt in business and tourism in Gujarat, these hotels will be in great demand in the next couple of years. Already hotels in Ahmedabad are today seeing 75 per cent occupancy."

Narendra Somani, chairman and managing director of Bhagwati Banquet, says "Gujarat has a shortage of 600 rooms in the five-star category at present. This shortfall may rise to over 2,000 rooms in three years." Bhagwati has signed an MoU for a five-star on Dhumas Road in Surat.

"With investment pouring in to the state, I see room for a couple of more five-star hotels even after these 15 projects are completed." Raj Travels and Tours has proposed a 42-storey five-star hotel on SG Highway. This would be the tallest hotel in India with largest conventional centre. Lalit Seth, chairman and managing director, said there would be 10 different speciality restaurants apart from a ice skating ring and a international shopping arcade. Seth estimates that the project could cost Rs 350 crore.

PD Vaghela, managing director of Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited, said that November 2006 alone saw a rise in four lakh tourists in the state. "Fifty-five per cent tourists coming to Gujarat are business travellers. The rest is religious tourism," he said. Leisure tourism had so far formed a measly seven per cent. "It has risen to 15 per cent recently. This is one area where we believe there is a lot of potential," he added.

Indoor Air-conditioned Stadium at Ahmedabad, designed by Christopher Charles Benninger

The stadium is designed to seat five thousand spectators. Located on the historic Kankaria Lake, in the centre of the city, the complex houses a large arena, a drama theater, a skating rink and gymnastic facilities. There is a basement parking facility for five hundred vehicles, extensive building management systems and specialized lighting and audio-visual systems. The centre is located in a chain of recreational facilities that ring the lake. A sequence of stairs, ramps and seating areas lead up to a podium promenade. These facilities allow the public access to a tree shaded garden retreat perched over a cooling lake.

Vyayamshala to be reborn as indoor sports complex

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has prepared plans to build an indoor stadium at Kankaria lake-Maninagar, the constituency of chief minister Narendra Modi.

The project, designed by Pune-based Christopher Charles Benninger Architects, will convert the existing Ambubhai Purani Vyayam Shalla into the AMC Indoor Stadium.

The new stadium will hold two basket ball courts, a skating rink, a planetarium, e-library, multipurpose hall, a gymnasium, aerobics hall, store-rooms, a stage and different rooms for table tennis, snooker and other indoor games.

The total built-up area of the AMC Indoor Stadium with basement would be around 26,316 square metre.

The new indoor stadium would have a capacity of 6,612 people, including 4,412 lower-level seats and 1,200 at the arena level.

The open stadium would have 3,554 seats. The 677 square metre skating rink would be of international standards. Similarly, the 100 sq.m. planetarium would seat 60 and be equipped with projectors and related facilities.

Parking would be in the basement area and it would have 416 four-wheelers and 382 two-wheelers.

First private sector textile park to come up near Ahmedabad


Ahmedabad-based Pradip Overseas Ltd, an exporter of household linen, will set up the country's first private sector integrated textile park near here with an investment of Rs 1,200 crore over the next five years.

The park, known as "Greenfield Textile Park" in view of 40 per cent of its total 400 hectares being developed as greenery, when completed, would produce five lakh metres of cloth every day to emerge as the largest entity in the world in this segment, its Chairman, Mr Mukund Karia, and Technical Advisor, Mr J.S. Negi, told a news conference here.

The integrated park would have all the activities related to the home textile starting from spinning, weaving, processing, stitching, packaging and dispatching at one location.

The company, whose last year's turnover of nearly Rs 100 crore is expected to shoot up four times to Rs 400 crore (including exports worth Rs 300 crore) in the current fiscal, would finance its project through 60 per cent debt and 40 per cent equity.

It is planning to mop up 20 per cent of funds (around Rs 200 crore) through a public issue this year, they said.

The company currently has advance export orders worth more than Rs 200 crore for the next financial year.

Mr Karia said the first phase of the park would come up in a 115-hectare area, in the next one year, with an investment of Rs 360 crore. Initially, two lakh metres of grey cloth expected to be woven. "Along with weaving, we are strengthening our processing capacity by introducing a new process house for one lakh metres of wider-width cloth per day."

In the second phase, entailing an investment of Rs 550 crore, weaving and processing would be further strengthened while new spinning mills would be set up in the third phase with an investment of Rs 200 crore.

The company would increase its capacities up to five lakh metres per day by way of a marketing tie-up with known brands in the international and domestic markets. Once fully developed, the park would generate employment avenues for about 20,000 skilled and unskilled workers.

The Government would earn foreign currency to the tune of an estimated Rs 1,500 crore per annum, they added.

It will take one and half year to start first phase of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in Ahmedabad. Chief minister Narendra Modi has named this project as ‘Janmarg project’. He says that, there should be Gujarati meaningful name of this bus service, otherwise it would also become a story of name like ‘AMTS’ (Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service). BRTS will have comfortable Volvo buses. It will have separate up and down lanes exclusively for buses. Actual model of BRTS has been adopted from Bogotá city of Columbia. Parshwanath plans to set up multiplex commercial mall

One of leading real estate developers in the country, Parshwanath Developers Ltd, on Friday announced the launch of its Rs 250 crore project including setting up of a five-star hotel and multiplex-cum-commercial mall project at Vejalpur in Ahmedabad.

Spread over a total area of 22,365 sq meters, the project will have a five- star hotel and commercial mall as well as multiplex and the project is slated to be completed and start operations within two and a half year.

There is a tremendous scope for large footfalls considering facilities, locations and the brands, that are expected to come up at the upcoming mall”. He also said that a number of well-known retailers have booked space in the mall and the realtor has already tied-up with Movietime Cineplex Pvt Ltd to manage the multiplexes.
