Anyone else see in today's mX that the BCC is installing two lighthouses on either side of the William Jolly to project 'art' onto the bridge at night? I think this project gets underway in September. This part of the city is really coming along well, and seems to be reflecting that West End / South Bank creative vibe.

Wow, you can't really get a better angle than that one. Northbridge has a perfect view.
Here is one from GOMA today, afternoon though.

I was on foot, I was there probably around 3pm. You didn't go to 275 George Street at all around 2pm? There was a photographer there at the time. I've only got a compact too.

September from a government minister statement a couple of days ago. He actually walked across it as well, being the first non construction person to do so apparently.

Looks to me like the red supports are coming down....although I seem to have failed to capture a picture of that.

They look like parts for the shade canopy that will run along the length of the bridge, over the centre of the pathway.

From the size of the steel work on the barge I would say they must form part of the structural integrity of the bridge. I think these members form the horizontal tensegrity elements rather than just a canopy beam. I guess they fit these before removing all of the red supports as it is these members which provide outward tension to the uprights stopping them 'flipping' into the incorrect position with wind and changing sideways loads!

wonder what the plan is for the space between Goma and the william jolley... they need some cafes and life there, maybe a bar under the bridge called 'jolley's'

I'm not sure if you are familiar with what that area is better known for at night time. Certainly there has been some alcohol consumed there though.
Not a good place to go for a late night stroll on your own. |
