India needs a scientific lane mark system that is standardized throughout the country.

We need better roads before the lane marking.

I think the roads in Mumbai are well paved and well constructed. Areas like CST, Metro, and Girgam have some wide roads.

The surface quality of Mumbai's roads is way better than that of the roads in New York. Mumbai needs footpaths, traffic lights, lane marks, proper curbing, good barriers, good signage etc...

NTC gives 4 acres for Chaityabhoomi project
Yogesh Naik I TNN

Mumbai: The National Textile Corporation (NTC), which owns the India United Mill No. 5, has agreed to part with a four-acre plot for the Chaityabhoomi expansion project. The Chaityabhoomi ground, next to Shivaji Park, is the final resting place of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. As part of the beautification project, the state will construct university for social justice named after Babasaheb Ambedkar, a Vipassana meditation centre, a Bhikkhu Nivas (for Buddhist monks), among other amenities.
A decision was taken in a meeting between the urban development department and NTC officials in Mantralaya on Thursday. The plot is located along the sea in Dadar.
Chief minister Ashok Chavan had requested Union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran to allot land for the project. A senior state government official said, “The NTC wants to construct a hotel with a convention centre on the remaining eight-acre plot. We will give the entire floor space index (FSI) to the NTC.’’
The state government will sign a memorandum of understanding in October with the NTC. Since the plot is next to the sea, the development will require a nod from the Union
ministry of environment and forests. The NTC has also agreed to hand over a plot for setting up of a vocational guidance centre for mill workers and their wards by December 31.

As part of the beautification plan, a varsity for social justice and a Vipassana centre will be constructed

TOI:

Higher FSI to redevelop metro area, says MMRDA
Ashley D’Mello I TNN

Mumbai: The state government is considering a proposal to redevelop the areas around the Mumbai metro lines, paving the way for residential and commercial establishments.
The plan, which entails giving a Floor Space Index (FSI) of 4 to areas around stations, had already gained the backing of senior officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, who feel that it will benefit the city.
The proposal, called ‘the zone of influence’, was first brought to the table by the city transformation unit of the All India Institute of Local Self Government over a year ago. Its main aim, was to redevelop these areas by granting an FSI of 4 for an area of 500 m on either side of the second line of the Mumbai Metro.
However, it felt that there would be strong opposition to this plan from the areas that have colonies and residences that are over 80 years old. MMRDA officials say that they are now in favour of the plan as they feel that it would speed up redevelopment.
“Our idea is to allow redevelopment on the lines of cities abroad. It will pave the way for residential areas so that people do not have to commute long distances to work,’’ said an MMRDA official.
