A classical facade and a boxy design but a pretty tower overall.

Great photo. It looks like it's from TD Centre; I can't wait to get up there again during Doors Open.

I like that little old building looking thing in the corner. Macy's herald square style!

Well Trump is incredibly slim. The foot print is maybe 1/2 of Bay Adelaide Centre.

The following updates were posted today by forumer, current. I hope he doesn't mind.

Prefer this view to the usual one from the islands, but I've always found it strange that you can't see the top of the Skydome. You can fit a 31 floor building inside it. It's tall and wide enough that you should be able to see bits of it.

Not so fast. Check out some of the other towers that have been approved or recently proposed. The conservative culture of a city is not something that is easily changed. That we are seeing buildings like the the AGO Transformation, the L Tower, AURA, the Lee Chin Crystal, and ICE condominiums is testament that a huge shift has occurred.

Toronto's establishment is conservative by nature, and has historically not leaned towards a cosmopolitan aesthetic the way Montreal does. Toronto's sensibilities have always been rooted in it's agricultural past. It's not a culture that is drawn to design that turns it's back to tradition.

We're never going to build buildings like Middle Eastern cultures do, but we're certainly creating a new modern aesthetic that is quintessentially 'Toronto'. It is one that marries beautiful clean modern lines, yet adheres to traditional ideas about architecture. That's a far better outcome than simply reproducing what is being done elsewhere. It speaks to the maturing of this city, and a city that is becoming an influential exporter of fashion, design, and culture, rather than just a second tier city that absorbs these things from others.

Bay-Adelaide is not the best example, but many of these other towers that will soon dot the skyline are buildings that speak to this. They may not wow at first glance, but they are thoughtfully designed, and will age very very well.

It should be noted that most of the world is opting for the type of aesthetic that is common of places like Dubai or London. If Toronto stays the course, Toronto will become an ever rarer metropolis in a world of clone cities. That's not a bad proposition.
